Default Post windows messenger and windows XP pro SP1

I think I have found a curious little quirk and im wondering if anyone else has the same issue, so lets find out !

I recently upgraded to the newest official windows messenger via the live update, when restarting my PC with the windows messenger options "disabled" for start up, you can imagine my surprise when people starting chatting to me, with no icon on the taskbar. I check outlook, outlook express for start up options, check windows config.

firing up task manager I see MSMSGS.exe running away...... so I conclude its a problem with my config. after many hours of messing around in the registry and checking other options I decide to do a clean install of XP. everything works fine, good. must have been a config issue or perhaps the plus extension causing some conflict with windows messenger.

install SP service pack......... and windows messenger wants to self update ....... works fine..... restart ..... WHAM........msmsgs.exe starts running again.

So would someone either confirm this for me, or tell me im talking out of my ass on this please. im running Trillian pro now anyway, but id like to find out if its something else that is causing this.

someone else has confirmed this, but 2 cases arent enough for a solid conclusion.

Shaith is on a distinguished road

run gpedit.msc, go to administrative templates, then windows components, then windows messenger

Enable both options there, it's supposed to prevent MSMSGS from loading.

while the alternative option above works, looks like there might be a bug issue in the newest MSN which is not allowing users to disable it on boot up via the options within the app.
