Need an opinion about upgrading.
I've read a couple things one way or the other about the differences. Now, it's opinion time.
I'm currently running Windows 2000 (sp4) with little to no difficulties. Granted, it's a little old, but it works. And here in hand, I have a copy of Windows XP Professional (Sp1)...I'm debating on formatting, and installing it. I'm impartial as to which one I use, as long as it's stable, and works. I also primarily use my computer for gaming...and I don't know whether or not XP is better than 2000 or not. Any comments would be MUCH appreciated. -Wired.

Win2K is XP without the eyecandy. W2K also scores better in 3Dmark (all top scorers run w2k) but this doesn't garantee a good gaming experience.
If you're a casual user i'd advise to go with xp, it looks better and since SP2 security is much better then on w2k. Also the user enhancements in XP are worth it, things like system restore and remote desktop can save you "life". My other advise, update your winxp installcd with SP2 prior to installing. you can slipstream (thats how it's called when intergrating an servicepack into the os) fairly easy with nlite ( http://nuhi.msfn.org/ ) this will give you all the enhancment without having to update right away, also slipstreamed systems tend to preform better and are more stable then systems where SP2 was installed upon a excisting installation.

I saved myself the headache of trying to format and switch between the two. I decided just to deal with dual boot abilities so I could compare for myself.
![]() *edit* I've noticed that a couple of programs tend to work better with XP as opposed to 2000...WindowBlinds, Adobe PhotoShop...and for some reason, my mouse control seems to be a little easier to control now. (I guess Logitech's Setpoint software must be geared to XP)

Windows 2000 was an incredible OS; even for home users. If you have a copy of Windows XP Pro I'd go ahead and install it. Most PC applications now a days are developed with XP in mind and you can guarantee (if that exsists
) compatability with the lastest software running on your PC. XP is derived from 2000 so it isn't a whole new world so to speak, but a better version of an already great OS. I'd vote for you to upgrade.

XP Pro
it has newer NTFS system Better all around Kernel MAJOR support for everything... BACKWARDS CAPABILITY modes... (got some old games? ) the security and overall flexibility of it is a single good reason.... Most likely to get updates first... and 2000 may start dropping off the supported list soon...
