System Information tool

my System Information (msinfo32.exe) tool opens but shows no information, and and in the right hand pane says, "can't collect information: a network error occured in connecting to Windows Management Instruementation. ensure that your network connection is functioning properly."

this seems to be a repeating problem for me from time to time, and it's not like this is a big thing, but it is one of those annoying problems that when you go to run system info and you get this error, it *isses you off a little bit more each time.

i have done google searches on this error, and on corrupt msinfo32.exe, and system information and have tried all fixes that i have found, even tried a batch file that was suppose to open the system info (it didn't work either). all services that need to be started are running(event log, rpc, and wmi).

i think it all comes down to a registry entry or setting, because the one thing that i think i have noticed is that this problem only pops up now and then, and if memory serves me right(?), it seems to coincide with when i run a registry cleaning program and i end up deleting "all entries" that are found to be in error. (bad on my part, probably should have scanned each entry to see what i was deleting, possibly had something listed pertaining to system info/msinfo32?)

I'm one of those programaddicts that tries most of what comes around if others recommend it, and the registry programs I probably try out the most. Some of these programs, from what i recall, don't cause this problem, but they also don't seem to clean as deep. the ones that clean deeper seem to cause this problem.

i did a reformat and clean install about a week ago, all running great, then installed the reg cleaner this morning, ran it, deleted 130 entries and now the problem.

any ideas?

read the posts on the link you provided, checked my system against all that applied, still didn't solve the problem. at first I was almost 100% sure that a registry cleaning program corrupted some thing to do with wmi. i ran the backup of the registry cleaning program to put everything back, but didn't solve the problem, so not sure now.

still searching the 'net for others with same problem, and possible solution. i know i've had this before and found the solution that applies to me, but just haven't ran across it yet.
