cpu throttling

I possible way to optimize your system? Was searching online when i noticed i can lower my cpu usage on jediknight 2 by using com_maxfps and setting it to a lower fps such as 40, this way while im compressing a huge folder i dont get jerkiness in my games. Kind of like software hyper threading i think. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
