Hopefully this is all there is to it:
"Proxy/Firewall Issues Regardless of how you connect to a Remote Desktop server, if either your client or your server is behind a firewall or proxy server, you won't be able to connect unless you open up the necessary port, 3389, to permit the Remote Desktop Connection capability to pass through." http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...January14.mspx

Let's move this to the Windows forum, there's probably someone who has experience in this.

You need to let svchost.exe (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) accept connections in the Trusted Zone.
That is, svchost.exe must have "server" rights to the Trusted Zone. and if there's an option that says something like Block local servers, then the option will need to be unchecked. Then you need to add the applicable client to the Trusted Zone. Add the client by whatever is most appropriate IP addresses, There are 2 options for configuring the firewall to allow Remote Desktop Connection Access: - Configuring ZoneAlarm for Static IP Remote Access: If the IP address of the Client computer is fixed or ‘static’ then you can allow this IP address through the Host’s firewall if you wish (instead of opening the remote desktop port), Click on the Trusted tab at the top of the the ZoneAlarm Pro program window. Then click on the Add button, The ‘Add IP Address’ window will appear. Enter the static IP address of the computer you want to allow access, and add an optional description. Click the OK button, and then click the Apply button on the ZoneAlarm window to save the changes. - Configuring ZoneAlarm for Dynamic (DHCP) Remote Access: If the IP address of the Client computer frequently changes (is ‘dynamic’), then you will need to open port 3389 (the remote desktop connection port) in your Host’s firewall for access,. In the Internet Zone Security area of the window, click on the Custom button. In the High Security Settings for Internet Zone, scroll down and check on the box marked Allow Incoming TCP ports. enter 3389 in the port box and click on the Apply and then the OK button. |

I have it set in expert settings to allow the port, it is also forwarded to the router. Under the zones section there happens to be no way to just allow a port. So I did it under the expert section awhile ago and did not work. I can allow a certain IP but yeah that does not always work as most people I know are on dynamic.

No Problem. Glad you have it sorted.
ZA is a good firewall, actually. atleast for version 3 and 4 that i've tried, its program control works precisely, server rights allowable, an easy to use and config UI, and in case you don't know you can easily reset the program if it's act ups in someway that you like to start over without having to uninstall-reinstall, to do this, shutdown the ZA at the system tray, then go to \WINDOWS\Internet Logs folder (the name of the folder is the "Internet Logs", if i remember correctly), then clear out everything inside the folder and reboot, after that, you will have to reset all settings again like you did the first time after you installed it. it's just i have a small problem with one of my internet program that sometime i need to use it and if i also use ZA i'll have to reboot the PC after a disconnected, otherwise the internet won't work. |
