DVD Rom Drive gone

Hello,

I am just surprised to see this happen.
I have, well used to have, one DVD drive(H) and one CD-RW(I) drive. Now I don't see the 'H' drive(DVD drive) in 'My Computer' window. I have no access to the drive when I insert a disc since I have no way to. The autorun is not working. It's like the drive was never there. I used the drive with no problem only few days ago. It just disappered. I don't think I ran any unusual operation recently.
My OS is Win XP Pro(SP #2). The DVD Drive model is Asus 16X DVD-E616P1 Black

Can any of you help me please?

Thanks

check your hardwares and cables, make sure they're all in good cond',
if you are not sure or don't know how to check or tell then just leave that for the time being, will get to this part later if needed.

try the following steps..
if you use Intel and have installed intel application accelerator,
disble all background programs and uninstall the IAA software and reboot your PC,
then uninstall all of the 3rd party burning/recording software programs and reboot,
then open up the Device Manager, expand the node DVD/CD-ROM drives, then R-click on each and every drives, select "uninstall" then reboot.
now, see if all the CD/DVD drives shows up and works, if not, use the Google to look up word in the "" below and D/L one of the following file..

"xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs" or "cd_dvd_fix.vbs" (created by Doug Knox)
-Or-
"cdgone.reg" (www.aumha.org)

after you have the file, run it and reboot again.
see if these helps.
if so, you can now re-install the software mentioned above.
