Feel like trying out a transparent cursor?

Nothing too fancy, but then again why should a mouse cursor be that. I made this after finding out that my favorite scheme "extra large by logitech" was not included in the SetPoint driver package for the new MX1000 mice. While I could have just extracted the pointers from the mouseware package, I felt like something new, and this is the result. The sample image below doesn't quite do it justice because I couldn't capture the pointer with the WinXP pointer shadow effect. Especially the looks of the main pointer gains much from the shadow.

The left part is the main pointer that has a transparent core. The right image is what the pointer transfers into when it hits a web link, instead of that standard white hand you all know so well. I was unsure exactly what to do with this part, but after trying out a number of alternatives it seems to work well enough to just make the core turn opaque grey.

Get the file cursors.zip in that folder. Web host does not allow for direct linking to files. Inside the package is also a transparent hourglass figure. To try out any part of the package go to the control panel > mouse > pointers. Save your current choices as a scheme if you already have some custom pointers you'd like to be able to easily go back to. The standard folder for cursor files is "\windows\cursors\".

It was alright. I still prefer the default though (most likely cause I'm so used to it).

Thanks all for the nice comments. It takes a while to get used to any major change to a mouse cursor, but after a week I got hooked on it.

Speaking of cursors in general I also replace several of the other cursor modes with a standard cursor type, primarily Text Select wich otherwise just annoys me having the pointer turn into a thin stripe just because it happens to be positioned over text. It was probably a great idea back when 640x480 was the standard resolution. Regardless of wich pointer you may use, give that idea a try.
