Two Quick Questions

1. What order should I install everything in on a reformat? OS-service pack-mobo drivers-vcarddrivers-sound drivers?

2. How much thermal paste do I put on a P4 heatspreader and do I have to spread it on? I think on my P3 I just put a glob on and then the heatsink sorta spread it by itself.. Thanks.

1. The best thing to do for the service pack is to Slipstream it (if you're using XP, I'm not sure it can be done with Win9x/ME). Alternately, you can use Autostreamer. But, if you don't want to do that, here's the order I do things in and it's kept things pretty trouble-free for me:

1) Install all patches from WindowsUpdate (I install DirectX last for step 1 if a newer version than the one in a service pack is available). If you're not slipstreaming and you're on broadband, I recommend downloading the Network Installer for SP2 for XP anyway (you'll need this for slipstreaming also).
2) Install chipset drivers
3) Install video card drivers (then Monitor driver if needed).
4) Install sound drivers
5) all other drivers
6) Tweak everything to my liking
7) Install apps/games ect.

2. Here are the instructions for Arctic Silver, but it applies to pretty much any thermal compound (in short, yes, spread it accross the entire heat spreader).
