its running fine for me. sooner or later games, applications, and even drivers are going to make windows xp service pack 2 a requirement. the best way to install it is by slipstreaming it to your windows xp cd and reformating and reinstalling windows.

It's fine. Just the Security Center may cause some headaches, but it can be turned off if you want to. But there's no issue with it.

it's a very good idea, as it fixes several security holes, and isn't obtrusive/annoying once you turn security center off

there are definitely more pros than cons to sp2. if you have a firewall, automatic updates and antivirus, the security center won't bother you.

I also upgraded to sp2 last month and it runs fine didn't break any applications either.

I am still on SP1 I have tried SP2 on my other PC and I cant really see the advnatages. To me the O/S runns slower with SP2.
Is it true that if i keep my security updates up-to date with SP1 it will be as secure as SP2?

You should really get SP2, like above slip stream it. or at least do a format and then put it on as the first thing, any issues hit us back and people can try and solve them for you. Much better to fix the issues if you have any than to run SP1 instead, there's vast improvements with wireless networking if you use that.

SP2 is definately an improvement, the security side of things is the most important, but if you do a slipstream you shouldnt notice any performance drop and you also get better wireless and bluetooth support (and more).

I posted a link to a very nice guide in this thread . Basically slipstreaming allows you to do a clean install with the service pack rolled in rather than patching afterwards.

The only problem I've had with SP2 is WinDVD 5 and 6 crashes when there's a DVD in the drive (go figure lol). They run fine playing video files though (AVI's, MPEG's ect.).
It seems like the boot time is improved somewhat with it to (not that I'd upgrade to it for a faster boot time). I'm assuming the prefetch has been improved a bit. As far as over-all system performance, I haven't noticed a difference other than that. Prime P.S. MiDKnYtE: Thanks for that Autostreamer link! I used it once before but I forgot the name of it and ended up using Nlite and it screwed everything up. Time to make a new disk

get to the bit where it asks for a "target IOS FILE" , so i used the example it gave me(c:\xpstreamed.iso) the green tick showed up and then press finished. Then get to the next stage were it says "now prepare your window to be integrated to service pack file etc..." green tick shows on the creating temporary folder and a curve shape arrow pointing at copying share to temporary folder. At this point i should be getting green bars filling up at the bottom of the screen but i'm not even getting a single bar ??? When i goto the temp folder" $autostreamer$",all thats in there are autorun, setup, read me and spnotes files ???? can anyone help plz

try quitting your antivirus, firewall softwares and other background programs, and also clean the disc before starting to copy files from the disc to HDD, if you still getting the same error then test the disc in a different drive.
after you fixed the copy CD problem then the slipstreaming a service pack shouldn't be any problem.. |

That file is an ISO. WinRAR takes the ISO exstension by default. Just open it with your CD burning program and burn it. Be sure you're burning the ISO though and not a Mode1 or Mode2 CD or you'll just end up with a CD with the ISO file on it and not Windows.
For Nero, close the wizard and go to File, open, then under "File of type" drop down list, select "Image File (*.nrg *.cue *.iso)" and browse to the file. When it opens, select your burning speed and set it to "Disc at once" for the most reliable burn, then click burn. Prime Last edited by Prime2515102; Nov 25, 2004 at 02:33 AM. |

assuming that you have/use the right source files then after the slipstreaming is done and the ISO file is created,
you don't have to change any contains within the ISO file, just burn it. |
