Delete the temporary internet files, then Start IE, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box, click Apply and OK. these may resolve the issue, see if it helps.

Okay, go to Start -> Run, type regedit
within the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key, and check your registry settings,
then backup (export) it and modify the value data if you have to..

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
For Content Type, it should read "image/jpeg".

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg
For content Type, it should read: image/jpeg

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif
For Content Type is should read "image/gif"

if all of the keys have already been set to that, post back.

System Specs

Try clearing the IE cache again, and maybe reboot once afterwards. That really does take care of that problem in most cases.

allocate more space for your internet temp files, then delete the "index.dat" file that stores information about your Internet usage and etc, the file might be corrupted, reboot your PC after that. if you don't know how to remove the files from your system, google for the information or get a program to do it for you.

here's more details and solutions..

Quote:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=ie600
( http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978 )
SUMMARY
When you save an image in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the image is saved by default as a bitmap (.bmp). You do not have the option to save the image by using an extension other than .bmp. You experience this behavior even when the image uses a different format (such as .gif or .jpeg).

For example, when you right-click an image on a Web page, and then click Save Picture As, the file name that appears in the File name box is Untitled, and the file type that appears in the Save as type box is Bitmap (*.bmp).

CAUSE
This behavior may occur if a damaged program file (for example, an ActiveX or Java object) is downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk.

RESOLUTION
To troubleshoot and resolve this behavior, empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then delete the files in the Downloaded Program Files folder that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged.
To do so:
1. Start Internet Explorer (if it is not already started).
2. Empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder.
To do so:
a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
b. Click the General tab.
c. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.
d. When you are prompted to delete all temporary Internet files, click OK.

3. In the Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk, remove the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged.
To do so:
a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
b. Click the General tab.
c. Under Temporary Internet files, click Settings.
d. Click View Objects.

The list of program files that are downloaded to the SystemRoot\Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk appears in the Downloaded Program Files window.

e. In the Status column, note the files that are listed as either Unknown or Damaged. Remove these files. To do so, right-click the file, and then click Remove.
f. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes.
g. Close the Downloaded Program Files window, and then click OK two times.

4. Save an image in Internet Explorer to test and determine if the issue is resolved.

If the issue continues to occur after you remove all downloaded program files that are listed as Unknown or Damaged, try removing the other downloaded program files that are on the list.

Note: The next time that you need one of the files that you removed from the Downloaded Program Files folder, you will receive a prompt to download the file to your hard disk in Internet Explorer.
you can use the Windows disk cleanup utility (Start ->Run ->cleanmgr) for the above.

Completely Deleting the Temporary Internet Files and index.dat
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

you've checked this one out already..
Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q260650

Check you registry again, go to the following registry keys and check your settings of the value name "Extension" on the right pane...

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg
value data of the "Extension" is ".jpg"

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/pjpeg
value data of the "Extension" is ".jpg"

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/gif
value data of the "Extension" is ".gif"

Also, on the previous solution that i gave ealier, try changing it from "allocate more space for your internet temp files" to reduce the space allowed to 30-50 MB. the reason for this is if you use the system/IE default setting on a big drive the space allowed maybe too high and can cause the indexes of the temp internet files get overloaded.

R-click on a web pic that you want to save, and select "Copy" (not the copy shortcut),
then open the MS Paint, and Paste the image onto it, then select Save As.., and choose your preferred file type to save the image. use this for now if you like, till you find a solution to that.. actually you can save the image then convert it with your image program.. understand your frustration lol.
