I'm using the ATI 4.8 drivers
My voltages and temps are all fine. It's got me stumped.

i'm not certain about the cause, but here are a few thoughts that i'd try it myself...
1) reset the system virtual memory, go into the Virtual Memory setting, change the page file size to 0, then click "Set", reboot your PC, then delete the pagefile.sys if it's still exist. then change to use the System managed size options, click "Set". and reboot. if this helps stopping the error, you can go back to the Virtual Memory setting and reset it to the Custom size if you normally use this option. 2) uninstall/re-install or update drivers for the video card.. 3) in addition, i'd also try disabling the Data Execution Prevention feature. |

Software-enforced DEP
An additional set of data execution prevention security checks have been added to Windows XP SP2. These checks, known as software-enforced DEP, are designed to mitigate exploits of exception handling mechanisms in Windows. Software-enforced DEP runs on any processor which is capable of running Windows XP SP2. By default, software-enforced DEP only protects limited system binaries, regardless of the hardware-enforced DEP capabilities of the processor. |

krang Is your system newly installed or rather old, and with new hardware installed? If so try to uninstall sp2 and see if that is the problem?! A new fresh install of the entire system would be even better

The error you are getting is from the ATI card, but it also has to do with SP2 being a mess and compatibility issues with it. I would suggest uninstalling SP2 use an outside firewall and keep your SP1 updated and call it a day.

Thx everybody. I think Wildchild hit the nail on the head. Sp2 doesn't seem to like my 9700 drivers. I've tried all of them with the same result. I had no problems with sp1.

Well last night I cleaned the system, dumped the 4.08 drivers, and installed the Cat 4.12beta's. Everything has been running fine so far. Hope this finally settles the issue. At least until the next time.

okay, good.
you should try to find out what's actual cause of the problem, if you can find a way to fix it you should keep SP2, uninstall or don't use the SP2 ONLY when you have to. very small chance i'd say. |

I'mm 99% sure it was an ATI driver problem. My 9700 has a lot of hrs on it and I'll probably upgrade to an 800XT shortly.

i'm happy with you if you can upgrade to the card.
this time you have already fixed it, i hope. i'd not worry about it, just go play the game.. if it happens again you know what to look for and we do it again. but i'd suggest you back up your files and work on a regular basis, don't keep it in the OS partition, so you don't lost an hours worth of downloaded files and work. this's the most important, and you should take it seriously. |
