So many 'svchost.exe'

Is there a reason why there are so many 'svchost.exe' running in the background...? Can you disable all but one or all but the one(s) you need...somehow?

Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from DLLs,
Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services,
so that separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started.
This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

To view the list of services that are running in Svchost:
Go to Start ->Run -> type CMD, and then press ENTER.
then type Tasklist /SVC, and then press ENTER.
Tasklist displays a list of active processes.
the /SVC switch shows the list of active services in each process.

get this program, it's free and it's like Task Manager on steroids. Want to see what the SVCHOST is doing, well no better way than using Process Explorer. If you really like Process Explorer, you can also have it replace the default Task Manager.
