Weird thing that when I had SP1 I never had to format now when I use SP2 it has to bee done every month. Now I have this problem my SB Audigy drivers disaphered from add/remove, still they are installed and in devicemgr proves that. But Windows doesn't use these drivers there is no sounds at all. No speaker in the right lower corner. And when I delete this device from devicemgr
(safe mode) the normal win xp logon screen turn all white put u can still log. Could SP2 reinstall help or is it format again.....?

hard to tell how it will turn out, the XP reinstallation may or may not help...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341 How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP "Do not use a repair or in-place upgrade to resolve a problem with third-party programs, files or registry entries." |

do the reformat/reinstall again, it's better in this case.

if you start to reformat on a regular basis, you won't even care anymore

i have some of the critical registry keys in .reg file format, but you cannot use it.
for the whole registry, you'll probably need to use a 3rd party tool to make a backup of your own XP system after your 1st installation and/or before installing programs. this's depend on how you like to backup.. Taken from the readme file of the ERUNT - The Emergency Recovery Utility NT. Registry Backup and Restore for Windows NT/2000/2003/XP Look for the latest version here: http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt Note: The "Export registry" function in Regedit is USELESS (!) to make a complete backup of the registry. Neither does it export the whole registry (for example, no information from the "SECURITY" hive is saved), nor can the exported file be used later to replace the current registry with the old one. Instead, if you re-import the file, it is merged with the current registry, leaving you with an absolute mess of old and new registry keys. |

I have full own registry backup but when I apply it on safe mode it can't rewrite everything at least it whines so. However it made my system run again. I think it's reformat time soon. I'll take full backup with some 3rd party tool.

after did that, it seems to me you only have one choice now, accept it.
i've seen many users do the reformat for a lot less reason than this.. also, probably spend a lot less time finishing up than try to recover the system permanence and stability. so i suggest you backup your files and start it over, and then do the backup from the beginning. may be you can make a backup of the whole OS partition or drive, so you can restore it and don't have to reformat/reinstall again. |

when call them, explain to them the reason you have to do the reformat so many time, they will help you on the activation problem.
