The beta of Opera 8 should be out soon, based on the previews of 7.6. From what I can tell, they're not going to have a final version of 7.6, they're going straight to 8.

License upgrades from 7 to 8 are free though, and they just changed their license terms so that 1 license is is good for all desktop operating systems.

That's good to hear, I just paid to upgrade to 7 a year ago! Or has it been longer? Who knows.

It again is my browser of choice (feels like deja vu a year ago) and I don't see myself changing again unless something major happens with a competitor. Therefore yes, I'm a very happy opera user

8.00 beta (ow32enen800b1.exe) was out at ftp....pub/opera/win/
just saw it but have not D/L it yet.

see the definitions of the Opera preview and beta...
http://snapshot.opera.com/

------------

okay, installed. and i think, ,
after installed, not so sure but it seems to me that there won't be 7.6 preview 5 but it'll start with version 8.00 beta from now on... this one is build 7401 platform Win32.
might be because i did not remove registry when un-installing the 7.6 but i saw the installer of this build still using the same dir 'Opera 7.60 Beta' during the installation.

just installed it myself, ran it through some tests, seems as good as the 7.6 build I had installed, cant see any "improvements" as such mind you.

It does seem a tiny bit faster with some accessing, but its hard to tell im on a large line here most things load almost instantly.

The good news is the skins etc all work with 8 beta, so im guessing its more just a newer beta of 7.6 and they are going to take the naming convention from this point rather than the older numbering, meaning we might be near a V8 final.

Glad to hear skins still worked. I didn't enjoy waiting 2 weeks for an opera7 compatible phoenity native to come out.

Opera is incredible for 56k people by the way. You should actively use my 'g' key tip that I posted before. Visit this forum like normal, then hit g to switch opera to only load cached images (the visual indicator of what mode you're in is in the toolbar at the top somewhere). That should be enough to show all those little new post/hot topic icons. If you need to see another image such as our incredibly large signatures just right click and load it.

i'm always load page with Show Images, but the "Check Images" is set to "Never" and this because i use 56k, i'd set everything to "Always" if i have a hi-speed internet, lol. this browser is fast.

Opera tip (I'm remembering them as I use them)

Select some text and in the context menu choose translate. You can go from english to a bunch of languages as well as translate TO english. It's handy dandy if you allow foreign sites into your google results.

edit: Seleccione un poco de texto y en el menú del contexto elija traducen. Usted puede ir de inglés a un manojo de idiomas asÃ* como traduce al inglés. Es dandy práctico si usted permite sitios extranjeros en sus resultados del google.

Hehe when you're all done, translate it BACK to english. Translators aren't perfect :P

KISS 7.5
Quote:
Everyday millions of people browse the web with Opera. But sometimes their better halves or their parents haven't seen the light yet. Are you one of those who haven't convinced their girlfriend (or boyfriend)? Or do you want to install Opera on your parents' machine to make the web safer for them, but you are afraid they will be confused by all those options you dearly love yourself? Then maybe this page will help!
Read on http://people.opera.com/rijk/opera/kiss.html to set up Opera for partners and parents...
Clean upgrade
Quote:
The point of a clean install is that you don't retain all settings. Otherwise it wouldn't be clean. If you want to keep current settings and data, the easiest method is to do an upgrade. However, after you do a clean install, you can still import some of the settings and stored information from the older installation. This ranges from very easy to very difficult, depending on what you want. Read more about clean upgrading - http://people.opera.com/rijk/opera/cleanupgrade.html

Is there anyway in opera to turn off auto updating and the notifier that comes up when a popup is blocked?

I'm away from home now, just running 7.5.4 off of my USB drive, but IIRC the Opera 8 beta doesn't auto update, it only automatically check for updates and notifies you if they're available.
To disable the checking open (your profile path)/opera6.ini and change
"Check For New Opera=******" to "Check For New Opera=0"

I'm not sure about the pop-up notification, I did manage to disable it though, since I can't remember ever seeing it while using the v8 beta.

I gave Opera 8(beta) a try today and I love it. There are tons of options to play with, it's very fast, and seems to handle some pages better than FF. I really regret not giving it a chance earlier but I'll be sticking with Opera for a while

If anybody else ever surfs to gamefaqs.com, let me know if you have problems displaying searched games in that page. In my case, when I search for a game, I will not get results in the 'best matches' catagory, and half of the 'good matches' catagory are missing. The rest of the results are displayed. I'm using v.8 beta btw.

Edit: nevermind, just a page problem.

How to change the place where Opera stores your data

To move from a multi-user to a single-user setup:

* take note of the current locations shown in 'Help > About Opera'
* close Opera
* open 'OperaDef6.ini' from the main Opera directory in a plain text editor
* change the line 'Multi-user=1' to 'Multi-user=0'
* save and close
* copy the Profile and Mail directories from the 'Docs and settings' directory to the main Opera directory
* open 'opera6.ini' from the Profile directory in a plain text editor
* update all the file paths you find there
* done

To move to a setup with the profile data saved in a random location:

* take note of the current locations shown in 'Help > About Opera'
* close Opera
* copy the Profile and Mail directories from the 'Docs and settings' directory to your chosen locations
* open 'opera6.ini' from the Profile directory in a plain text editor
* update all the file paths you find there
* create a shortcut with this commandline:
"C:\Program files\Opera7\opera.exe" /settings "{path to profile dir}\opera6.ini" .. of course using you chosen locations.
* done

I used myie2 ages ago, was very good, but im so used to opera now with the gestures and just the way it handles, hard to move back to it. I fired up firefox last night to test a site and man I couldnt believe how poor it looked after opera 8 beta !

I have a question about Opera
Is the scroll bar set flush against the right side of the screen?
If not, can you customize it somehow to be flush against the edge?

I might download this and give it a shot

I haven't seen any difference between the two and the changelog on the opera forum for v8 beta was small. And the serial you have should work fine for the new version.
