WindowsUpdate Problem
I've been trying to update my windows xp but I just can do it, any time I visit windowsupdate, it show me (after a lot of time) this error number: 0x800A01AD.
I did what it says on the support page, i changed the permissions for: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \WindowsUpdate, but it's still showing that error. So, i searched on google that error number and i found that if i register some dll's, it could solve the problem, so i did it, i registered those dll's: wuapi.dll, wups.dll, wuaueng.dll, wucltui.dll, wuweb.dll, msxmls.dll, msxml2.dll, msxml3.dll, urlmon.dll I had some permission problems with some of those dll's, but i was able to solve them using RegMon to see what regkey were accesing and changing the permissions settings for each one. After a few minutes all of that dll's were registerd succesfully. But windowsupdate is still showing that error number .I have the SP2 installed. Any help is welcome and apreciated. ![]() In advance, thanks.

clear out all of your IE internet temp files,
using default privacy setting and default security settings for all web content zones. in \WINDOWS, locate a file called WindowsUpdate.log then go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ after that open the log file, look for all the info of your last windows update (date and time), see if any info in the log helps.. ------------------ if you can't find anything in the log file that can help you... then go to this google group - microsoft.public.windowsupdate - http://groups-beta.google.com/group/....windowsupdate then "start a new topic", write the same, exact message.., or use the "search this group" on the right hand side of the page. and see if one of these helps. that must be something else that needs to be looked at/into..
could you post the log info of your last WU ?, pls don't post the whole log, just the last date and time that you attempted and then failed.. also, open up the Event Viewer, type eventvwr.msc in the open Run box.. locate event type error, if any, pls post event id, source and description. |

releated ms artical
You receive a 0x800A01AD error message while you access the Windows Update Web site http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;833766 you can also try deleteing your windows update files and reinstalling them on next visit....
