how do u open the file with style xp, it doesnt seem to work.....
i goto open file with style xp but it wont load....... ![]() 1.Backup (copy) the file %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (most likely C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe - the boot screen) 2.Download the .zip to your computer 3.Open StyleXP, Select Boot Screens and Click "Add a New Boot Screen..." 4.Select the downloaded file then Click "Apply Boot Screen" edit: u cant do it with that version... downloadin full version now

i could not get style xp to find you're file you sent either.i were going to post a reply a short time ago,i download a theme from themexp and it turned out to be loaded with spyware.microsofts spayware beta stopped all access to the net...
but a system restore got me back online.. this is a little strange as i have used style xp quite a few times with no problems what so ever. the file you sent me must be an actual file you may need to manually install to windows, this i do not know how. Have you restarted you're pc since installing style xp.upon bootup i were asked which boot screen to go from?? ctrl-alt-del will be the person to tell you or me which files it would go into unless somebody else does. |

...just bummin 'round
|
i cant remember exactly how to but u can juss cut n past the file in the sytem32 folder i think it is, althought this must be done in safe mode!!! i was messin wit that themeXP a couple of installs back n found those things to use up to much RAM as i only have 512 n like to keep a tight system, soes somewhere in the themeXP web site there was a link to an article on doing it manually, wasnt hard at all but the first time i did it i did it not in safe mode n it required another reformat n install, in safe mode everything went fine.

the trial version of StyleXP can be turned to full using a serial number. Once you buy a license for it, you can use the full version...

there is a way to change the boot loader screen but I cant remeber now how to do it. Its really simple as well. Theres a program that loads and modifies one of the dll's (think) As soon as I find it or remember how to do it, I'll post in here. Give me a few hours though.

I think you have to edit the boot.ini file so that it always boots off a selected one.

you don't need to edit the boot.ini. go into my computer properties, advanced, startup/recovery. choose the correct default OS, then uncheck "time to display list...."
did you bother to go to the link i posted? |

Well, I tried to use my own ntoskrnl.exe but when I started up with it it said the NTFS filesystem was missing or something... I just thought it was an SP2 problem.

boot screen = so 1989
nice bootscreen battleaxe.
alot of boot screens are quite crappy, as Windows is relying upon the native VESA VGA standard while booting -- 640x480, 16(?) colours. The existing WinXP logo is actually quite simple, but it looks pretty decent due to some good design.
