Wrong Processor Displayed
Well I'm having some troubles with my BIOS so I cleared the CMOS but it still says CMOS is wrong when I reboot.
Also it displays my Processor as a AMD Athlon XP 1700+ when its really a 3000+ I was told to change the CPU speed, but I couldnt find anywhere to do that. Any Input would be a great help! Thanks |

A "CMOS checksum error" or similar is normal to get after a clear. After one has entered the BIOS once and saved settings it disappears. What brand and model of motherboard did you have?

Thanks for replying.
Its a MSI KT6V-LSR. I was on there website and I noted at the bottom, that you should use the 1.3 update which I already had installed but the LiveUpdate updated me to 2.0. It said on their website in order to flash back to the 1.3 I have to put it on a floppy disk. I dont have a floppy drive, would a USB floppy drive work? Thanks again |

OK, this sucks! LOL
Well I reset the CMOS, then go into the BIOS settings adjust from 100MHZ (which is the default) to 200mHZ, but when I save and exit the screen just goes black and my computer makes 8 continous beeps, then stops then repeats the same 8 beeps in a row. I am then forced to reset the CMOS again, then I am able to reset defaults or enter setup. I'm really lost here. Then sometimes a menu will show up asking me to Start windows normally. safe mode, or last good configuration. |

Try the next step 166 and see what you get there. There seem to be 3000+'s made for 166MHz FSB as well as 200MHz. The resulting clock frequency should be about 2.167GHz for the 166MHz FSB variant and 2.2GHz for the 200MHz variant. If the BIOS does not display the CPU clock frequency then a program like CPU-Z can give you that information. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Yep, pretty much. I saw in the manual that this motherboard has some settings for automated overclocking in the BIOS too so that may raise it from 160 to somewhere around the standard 166. Oh well, now that it works you won't have to worry about flashing the old BIOS back.
