Windows XP SP-2 BSOD Kernel Fault Check Etc...

well this is a new turn of events .... after typing my last post i went to get the ATI drivers again from the site.
it rebooted again

both times i was downloading both ati drivers at the same time (catalyst and the normal control panel ones)

could it be related to the internet?

in my event logger i have a few "TCP limit reached" warnings or something...

ok computer is rebooting every few seconds now. it will not stay on more than 1 minute so i'm writting this reeeeeeal fast

what was the original DEP line .... OptOut? OptIn? what?

Ok computer has been on 5 minutes without dying on me .. and it MIGHT be this
last time it rebooted by itself, i smacked my keyboard real hard and i musta pressed DEL cuz it went in the bios
i snooped around and changed the following:

RAM Voltage @ 2.7v --- Changed it to AUTO
AGP Voltage @ 1.6v --- Changed it to lowest one (1.5v)
Also, I turned off my cold cathode light in the PC just now ...

if my theory is correct, I'm using too much power ... even though my power supply is 480w .......

i dunno .... i'm just sorta expecting my PC to crash any second now ..... but we'll see

Successfully up since 9:16pm ET ! It's now 9:24pm ET yay ! ...... grrrrr

I don't wanna jinx it (although I always do)

but ok here's what happened to whoever's interested

- My computer kept crashing constantly and I got pissed so I went in the BIOS and started f***ing around
- I noticed my 2 hard drives weren't on 32-bit data transfers ... although they had always been before
- I put em both to 32-bit data transfers, save settings and exit.

Computer wouldn't post .... it would just stay at the pretty Asus picture (i dunno.... i don't remember enabling the pic either)

sooooo I yank off the battery, switch the jumpers, wait, wait, wait, switch em back, put battery back in and reboot

ok BIOS is reset ....
I go in BIOS and the only thing I touch is the hard drives, i put em back to 32-bit data transfers (which had created the non-post situation) just to be sure

computer posts .... in windows ....

like I said, I don't wanna jinx it buuuuut.
so far I've done everything that would have crashed my PC an hour ago
I transfered files from C to D
I downloaded files
I turned on MSN and changed my nickname
I browsed the internet
I played 20 minutes of Far Cry

so far .... well .... so far so good

but I'm gonna jinx it.

if you don't/cannot supply the information we need to know, i'm unable to help you, sorry.

turn off the Automatically restart when system failure, and on next system failure write down all of the Stop code and messages that appears on the BSOD.
and, also look in the Event Viewer for all of the Errors on both Application and System. these might give further clues.

ok sorry about that
it turns out my BIOS needed a reset
after the CMOS reset things are back to normal
I just played 1 hour of Day of Defeat (from 11:20pm to 12:20am ET) and nothing was wrong

what I am gonna do is put all my old BIOS settings back to where they were one by one and test em out with 30 minutes of high CPU activity (like playing Far Cry while burning a DVD) and see if something goes wrong

the settings I'm gonna change are

- Memory Timings (currently 3.0-3-3-8 .... will change them to 2.5-3-3-6 which is what Corsair says my sticks can handle at 200mhz (DDR400)
- AGP/RAM Voltage
- Overclock my processor and tweak the voltage there too

we'll see how it goes

sorry if I don't have the stop codes but I can send you all my minidump files if you want. Thanks again for the help Ctrl-Alt-Del and if you ARE Tim ... dude .... those cartoons are crazy

i hope, everything is okay and stay in good condition now.

this is part of things that i wrote down earlier on my text editor but only posted the portion that you see above...

if you need other user opinions or helps you will need to provide all of useful informations, any info that helps the other helps you. sometimes the others don't know what to ask... the computer is with you, you're the one who know and see everything about the system, and eventually, you'll be the one who fix the problems.

if you think you've done everything about the drivers installed on the system, reformat the HDD and reinstall the Windows, recheck and re-set the computer Bios, etc, and none of them has help you... then, i think, it's time to reexamine your Hardwares, and you may have to try replacing it one-by-one with the another (anything that will work with the existing and rest of the system). starting from RAM (try another RAMs, also try reinstalling the existing RAMs in a different memory slots), then video adapter and the board.

memory timings SPD for my ram are 3-3-3-8
I set em to the Corsair-recommended 2.5-3-3-6
it crashed

i think it was the timings
gonna go play a game for an hour and see to make sure
i put em back obviously

the exact info is

CORSAIR XMS PRO C2 PC3200 DDR400 512MB SINGLE CHANNEL
(2 sticks)
SPD Timings - 3.0-3-3-6 2T 200mhz
Full Support - 2.5-3-3-6 1T 200mhz

soooo i might have bad ram fellas

even though SuperPi and such never found anything

ok here's what it's down to
my memory might be bad...

at SPD 3-3-3-8 2T -- I get 2715/2717 Bandwith and 0 errors in memtest
at 3-3-3-8 1T I get 3031/3031 Bandwith and 0 errors in memtest

but we know by now that at 2.5-3-3-6 1T (which is what Corsair says I should put my ram at !) it crashes my computer and it gets me 3028/3030 bandwith

so I guess I'm better off at 3-3-3-8 1T ... same bandwith but no crashes

still don't get what's wrong with my ram ....
but hey it's a lifetime guarantee so maybe in 2 years I'll give Corsair a call and exchange em and they won't have PC3200's anymore so they'll give me better lol

Bottom line is

PROBLEM SOLVED ----- RAM TIMINGS ARE FUX0RED

yup... the ram guy @ Corsair's support forum told me to run memtest86 on each stick one at a time (which I was about to do anyways) and I'll just exchange one of the sticks i guess

I had a similiar error, got the bsod when trying to shutdown(let AS5 bond etc) and it rebooted instead of shutdown. Would get to the login screen but would be black screen with mouse cursor. repair didnt work, had to format the drive. dont know what caused it, but eh, was long overdue. Hadn't formatted since August lol.

I play coh and have been having the rebooting trouble that is mentioned here. My computer was only rebooting maybe once a week in the Hoyle card game but I think after installing my printer it got much worse. I was dc'ing from the game within 5 min and having many problems. I first tried uninstalling a lot of the hardware I had to see if there was a conflict. It got better but started rebooting again shortly. i finally took of hoyle (my parents have it not me so its GONE

) and coh wasn't acting much better. I uninstalled it and re-installed it on my separate storage hard drive. It has been alright but not great. I only experienced the reboots while playing Hoyle and coh in safe mode. when it rebooted it would pop up the blue error screen but so fast I could never read it. Once i caught drivers but like the precious person it seems to be a changing message.

I am totally feeling the baseball bat stuff right now. if your resolution made more sense i'd try that lol. I'm going to call my dad again he built this thing
