help, windows won't boot propely

my computer has been working fine but today i changed a couple of things in startup in msconfig and uninstalled radlinker cause it was coming up with errors on startup. Now when i boot windows windows all i get is a blank screen with the mouse pointer which i can move about.

i can boot into safe mode and have uninstalled my graphics card drivers and have ran spware programs (spybot, spysweeper, hijack this and ad-aware) but still i get this blank screen. please help someone. thanks in advance.

what services did you disable in msconfig. BTW, it is a bad idea to disable stuff in msconfig, use "services.msc".

meant to say i re-enabled them all in msconfig in safe mode.

have you tried a system restore? Also, when does this blank screen come up, after pst, during post, after logon, before logon?. Do you get any error messages or strange sounds, anything like that.

i don't have any system restore points (more fool me i know) the black screen just comes on before the destktop usually loads. the mouse comes up first.

ok those symptoms were similar but not quite the same my boot up goes normally until just before it should finish. the mouse pointer comes up then the desktop should but still this dam black screen and nothing else. just did a repair install of windows and the same thing happened. am i looking at a complete format of my c: drive here?

I would say to maybe load the windows repair console (boot to windows cd and select repair), and type FIXMBR at the console. Wait to see what others say, this can potentially cause problems with your partitions.

could boot to safe mode but have just reformatted my c: drive. all my data is on other drives so it isn't too much hassle but still a pain. cheers for the help though.

you did all the things so fast... just asked you if the symptoms in that article would applied to your problem. it could be one of startup items, either a driver or a service or one of the startup program that causes this problem, enter Safemode, then Msconfig and choose the Diagnostic Startup option. you could find the cause of this problem...

you said you uninstalled radlinker have you tried reinstalling it .... also turn off any power saving features you never know
