Parental control

silly little question i am in charge of all the computers in my school. My school really cheap. But i set up a proxy server here. It seems to be sestive for example if you type in paris hilton you know the kind of sites it allows those to go thought. I need to get some software loaded on these that can moderate it

Windows does have built in parental controls. If you go to internet options/content and then click content advisor you can set the lvl at which the websites people can view. If your doing this on a mass scale though and dont want to do this on all pc's even though it only takes a couple of seconds, try something like net nanny

Don't use it if you can find ANY other option, though. Its notoriously buggy and will have you reformatting to solve simple issues on a more frequent basis than you are now.

Websense has a good solution for institutions. You may want to check it out.

mmm my school network uses a gateway server with a program called "Dan's Guardian" that blocks alot of stuff, with the option to block specific websites too

bess is easily hyper-paranoid, and window's content advisor(content advisor is a registry key

For example: bess will block google image search, which i find annoying

Websense is good, probably the most widely used by institutions. I am not sure on the price, probably worth checking out, seeing as though a school is a not for porfit org. You may want to scope out some grants and whatnot, there may be something from the gov. or the state along those lines.
