gvcpldrv service failed
Does anyone know if this service is linked to a videocard display driver?? My system sometimes stops responding when this service fails. It shows up in my event viewer as being a failed service. I've tried looking it up on technet pages but haven't been able to find anything related. There are registry entries for it, some seem to be legacy gvcpldrv drivers.
I'm running xp pro with sp2, 1gb of memory, radeon 9600 pro. |

I've seen this problem on other machines. Usually a reinstall of video card drivers does the trick. Make sure to run drivercleaner to make sure it is all out, then when Windows tries to install its own driver, cancel it and install your Omega drivers or whatever it is that you are using.

I don't know what gvcpldrv but it's releasted to a driver and it's a kernal of some sort. Usally if you disable a a suppoting service a driver needs it's fails with nasty results...
Whats you entire hardware config? might be time for a format and re-install

what the error in the Event log said ?
Open Event Viewer, post all Error logs that you found in System and Application, in this format... Event type: Error Source: xxxx Event ID: xxxx Description: xxxx (select and highlight in its box and copy/paste) example... Event Type: Error Source: Service Control Manager Event ID: 7000 Description: The GVCplDrv service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified. - also, look in the following areas, these may help us find more info about this service. Google/ web search for a complete info of this service. (as i suspect you already did). if google would not do any help then check info within your Windows system... open Services (Start ->Run ->services.msc), post all the 3rd party services Name, its Status and Startup Type. in the Registry Editor, locate and Export this below key, and then open the exported .reg file with your text editor and copy/paste and post... "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Gvcpldrv" Search your drives for Gvcpldrv, Gvcpldrv.sys if you find any files by these names check its properties and post. open the Device Manager, and select View ->Show hidden devices. then, expand the node "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" see if the driver name Gvcpldrv listed in there, if so check its properties and post. IF you don't want to waste your time or the computer have to be return to customer..., and all the needed files have already been backuped, also, you don't mind to do everything all over, then you can do a re-format and a new Windows install. But you could try to do something that won't take too much of your time first, likes remove the service from your Windows installed, uninstall-reinstall the vid drivers if you found out that the service is belong to, or had something to do with the vid drivers pack. and see if that FIXes the problem. anyway, before you make any change to the Windows system, even before a new installation of a driver, you should back up (or already have) all of your important files first. goodluck.
