Complex Network question..help
We are trying to set up an FTP server on an internal netowrk using WIndows 2003 Advanced server and RRAS. Now we created TWO FTP sites, one for regular port 21. ANother PORT 70, we have my computer as the server runnign FTP, and another cmoputer routing the signal out from our switches, to my schools private network. Now it works. BUt when we can create and FTP on say port 70, and have RRAS route that out, when we try to access the sever from the schools internal netowrk it does not work. Yet it dores work on our internal switches on our private ip address, but not on the schools internal network. Also to consider here that when it's attempting to cnnect it does show the session in the Curren Sessions window. We get the errors:
200 - Type set to A 227 - Enter passive mode 192,168,4,3,5,25 425 - Can't open data conection SO we don't understand what is going on when everything seems to be set up correctly, an no the school does not block port 70.

It could be that they are screening, throttling, or blocking port 70. That port is usually assigned to gopher. Most schools block ports that are heavily used by gopher or telnet to protect themselves, and port 70 just happens to be one to watch.
I would try port 20 instead. It's also listed for FTP use, and most likely not blocked. - Tip |
