Longhorn Anyone!
I'd be intrested to hear from anyone thats installed the Longhorn alpha!
Not sure what to make of it Direct X 9 appears to be final retail with dates from this month...IE 6 is a bit buggy you need to use a download tool like Leechget otherwise it crashes IE on downloads. The sidebar looks quitr a bit like dashboard 3.1 but more or less functional, & allows you to move the start menu & desktop over to the sidebar & get rid of taskbar, also included is a virtual destop manager, much like the linux, nvidia & other 3rd party destop managers. I struggled to get Direct X & Open GL working at full speed, the addtional menu's for my Geforce 2 don't appear under advanced. I had to use Geforce Tweak Util, couldn't get any other tweaker I tried to function The build number is 3683....which reminds me of .net server & you use .net RC1 Key, & Timebomb remover. The installer is from xp pro! Its looking quite nice, but lots of wierd & wonderful services running from default like the castle service which is Linked to SSDP discovery & Universal Plug & Play (Hopefully some kind of protection system) also fontcache service & future storage, for apps storage needs? This is only the alpha so it dosen't run very quick, at least not on my rig, lots of eye candy new visual settings menu (not yet working, but looks nice) anlong with animated folders in explorer! I could go on...but at end of day its an alpha..& i'm sat here using xp to type this, its laggy but coming along nicely! (still played 2 hours of CS using it) ![]() ooh forgot to mention no sign of WMP9!

Just used it for browsing the net, became quite frustrating at times kind of like using simulated 56k modem, quite annoying when you have 1024k download, I'll just have to tinker with it untill I'm happy...Kinda reminds me of when I got whistler, took so much effort to even get the bugger installed, in first couple of builds I laid my hands on

Just another Windows to me. I got it the other week and I, now, don't see what the big deal is.
I don't like it at the moment, maybe when it goes beta I'll have more of a play, but for now, back to good old Windows XP and .NET RC2
