My hibernate button is gone

i dont know where it is, i used it last night, i go to use it now and its not here, tried a system restore, tried 3 of them, all saying restoration cannot be complete, this is a fresh install. Its not in the task mananger either

Any ideas?

hibernate button is gone from where?
if i understand what you mean is you did not see the hibernate button at after clicking Turn off computer? if so, did you see Stand by button there?
and if you did see the Stand by button, then try pressing the the Shift key after the Turn off computer. and see if the Stand by will change to Hibernate...?

well i was using the classic logon, where you dont need to press shift, theres already a seperate button.

I changed back to the normal shut down mode, yes standby is there, but pressing shift doesnt do anything.

The only thing i can think about it being is a nvidia regestry fix that came with the install cd of the vid card, it enables to overclock. Because everything was fine only 12 hrs ago. If it is the reg fix, is there a program to enable the hibernate function, tried tweak Ui and no go.

okay, try going to Display Properties/Screen Saver, and then Power setting then disable the hibernation and reboot and after that re-enable it, and see if you can get the Hibernate option back at the classic Shut Down Windows drop down's menu...?

i just did a fresh install, and my hibernate button is disabled, i try to enable it but get this message

"the process cannot acces the file because it is being used by another process"

i searched for ages and i cant find what is holding it back,

any ideas?

no, i disabled a bunch of stuff through XP Anti Spy, but mainy media player stuff. I enables fast shutdown, but then disabled it, and still no go.

*just uninstalled antispy and still cant change it

the Hibernation tab may be missing from the Power Option Properties dialog box, or could be disabled...

hibernation is sometimes turned off by design when it is in conflict with certain programs.

some 3rd party programs/services interferes with power management functionality.

one or more device drivers that do not implement power management functionality correctly because they are not Plug and Play or power management enabled.

XP does not allow a computer to hibernate if XP cannot recognize a specific hardware device.

If you enable Physical Address Extensions in the Boot.ini file with the /pae command-line switch, the Hibernate feature is not available. (Win 2000 known issue)

No sufficient HDD free space available to hibernate.

ok so basically im screwed until i do a fresh install, pity cause its running soooo smooth

Does turning it off every night damage the components in any way?

unnecessary that you'll have to wait for the another Windows install.
i mean, if the option has been diabled due some 3rd party programs and you can determine it, and remove or update the program should fix it. otherwise, i think so,
i just don't know what's exactly causing it

nope, it does not. i have XP PCs that been using hibernation and been turning off every evening, doing that for years.
