EEK! DirectX 9.1??

I was reading my copy of PC Powerplay this month (Australian Magazine) and was suprised to find an article about DirectX 9.1.

They were saying that the new 9700 series supports DirectX 9.0 and is already outdated because of DirectX 9.1.

Does anyone have any more information on this?

What I want to know is, they've released RC1 of DirectX 9.0 but they have DirectX 9.1 in hiding? Why?

What features were added to 9.1 to make a 9700 obsolete? I wouldn't be too worried anyway; there aren't any DX9 games out yet and ATI will have a better card when the games start coming out.

It has been said that DX9.0 will have very short lifespan, DX9.1 will be released in less than six months after 9.0.

Or so I have heard.

Just like MS to release something that is not finished. I have also read that people, that have loaded Direct 9.0 are having problems with it and can not delete it from their systems. I will wait for the fix ver. before i load it or wait for a game that need it. I have a wait and see approace to this release.

Donator
What's the point in constantly updating this stuff when we haven't even seen games that are 9.X anyways..... Leave it up to MICROSUX!

I'm glad I mostly use open gl, it still looks prettier to me & moves quicker, there again I'm still using a GF2mx maybe as I upgrade I'll see the benefits of direct x9, but at moment the only difference I notice is dxdiag cube spinning quicker lol!

Well when DX8.0 was released it was soon followed by DX8.1

This didn't hurt the geforce 3 range which were only DX8.0
In fact I don't think the Geforce 4 cards are DX8.1 capable becuase they can't do pixel shader 1.4 which is a DX8.1 feature.

DX9.1 will not make DX9.0 obsolete.
Anything new that is in DX9.1 will just be a more efficient version of something that is in DX9.0.
DX9.0 graphic cards will be able to do DX9.1 stuff just not as fast.
