Why should I download Direct-X 9?
Hey,
It seems to me that a lot of people are downloading DX9 before it's even officially released. What is the advantage to doing that? Better in-game performance? I've got the latest official version, which is 8.1 I think. If you guys think I should download DX9, give me a link! =) Thanks. |

Also, are they any serious bugs in it? By downloading it, would I risk any damage to my software?

there are currently no games that use directx9. the only reason why you would need it is to run radeon 9700 tech demos, and for that you would need a radeon 9700...

I read somewhere that the new ATI catalyst 3.0 drivers for the radeon, which implements DirectX 9, do provide a performance increase in some games. I think I read it on rage3d.com, I dunno but you could check it out.

I dunno either.
But it hasn't broke anything and I think some of me games are a little smoother. Also, it install without the "Audio De-bugging" bug.

Freedom is a feature.

DirectX 9 (while it was still beta) fixed some skipping problems in Audio - I think it is good idea to download it, because DirectSound is much improved over 8.1 one.

It also has a built in refresh fix for XP, so you don't need to bother with a refresh hack to get the optimal refresh rate in games...

It has? Very strange. Which version had it? I know for a fact that they didn't have that fixed in DirectX 8.1 because it wasn't working when I had DirectX 8.1, and now with DirectX 9.0 final its working beautifully even when I disable my refresh hack... did I miss a DirectX update completely somehow?
