making a fully patched windows XP disc?
I think I saw somewhere that it is possible to make a windows xp disc that is fully patched. I just had to reformat my hard drives and reinstall windows and my XP pro disc is so old that it doesn't even have service pack 1... so it takes forever (all day) just to patch windows up to speed. Does anyone know if it is possible to make a windows instal disc that is fully patched? and if so, how?
Thanks, Soloz2 |

these following informations may help you when you have to use google...
to slipstream the Service Pack into the installation media... or another words, to integrate the SP into the installation so that with every new installation the OS and SP are installed at the same time. to create a fully patched installation XP CD... this one would be to integrate the SP and all of the hotfixes (up-to the day you create this CD) into the installation. note-- in some cases, this could give you problem at later time. as for example, when MS issues a new version of the hotfix that you've already integrated into the installation media and you used it to install Windows, you may not be able to uninstall the older version of the hotfix. therefore, you will not be able to apply the newer version of this same hotfix. to fully patched your XP system before connecting to the internet for the first time. it's all depends what you want to do... you will or may need to know and have the following... but you may not need to know or have everything in the following items. - How-to. - SP and hotfixes files for your Windows system. - CD, CD writer and CD burning software - RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack - XPCREATE The XP Distribution CD Creator - nLite - includes an automated slipstreamer for slipstreaming a SP. - AutoStreamer - Autopatcer. and the following are the Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles... - 824994 Description of the contents of Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 software update packages - 828930 How to integrate software updates into your Windows installation source files - Microsoft Windows XP Hotfix Installation and Deployment Guide - The Guide for Installing and Deploying Updates for Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 - 262841 Command-Line switches for Windows software update packages - 296861 How to install multiple Windows updates or hotfixes with only one reboot - Application Compatibility Testing and Mitigation Guide for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) - 815062 The correct file is not installed when you chain multiple hotfixes - 838204 List of Setup fixes in Windows XP Service Pack 2 - 889719 You cannot use the /integrate switch to integrate Windows XP Service Pack 2 into a folder with Windows XP on a computer that is running Windows 2000 - 887412 You receive an error message when you try to integrate Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) files into an existing Windows XP distribution share --------------------- to automate installations via an answer file (will not require user interaction during the install process) this is often known as "Unattended Windows XP Installations" - 314459 How to Perform an Unattended Installation of Windows from a CD-ROM - 314479 How to Add OEM Plug and Play Drivers to Windows XP - 254078 How to Add OEM Plug and Play Drivers to Windows Installations - Unattended, A Windows deployment system - MSFN's Unattended XP CD - Unattended Windows 2000/XP Installations - Windows XP Unattended Install - Windows XP Unattended Install - Creating a Windows XP Unattended Installation Disc - Creating an Unattended Install Script for XP Pro - WinXP CD install with all nForce2 drivers! - How to: Add RAID drivers and Service Pack 2 to your original Windows CD Last edited by Ctrl-Alt-Del; May 28, 2005 at 04:35 PM. |

if you mean the nLite, eventho, i've never try it yet but from seeing its UI i think, you probably won't need to read the whole guide, the program seems very easy to use. but if you're very new to all these then the guide that MIG-31 posts should make thing more easiler for you to do it. just try it you should have at least a XP SP2 CD (with not all of other hotfixes) in 30 mins or so.

Best solution would be to slipstream SP2 (you can do this manually by following THIS article, or have a program do it for you like Autostreamer), then add the newest version of AutoPatcher XP (May-05) that includes all the updates, plus tweaks/addons into a seperate folder on the CD (usually the 'Extras' folder is a good choice for dumping added programs). That way you get all the benifits of SP2, but you can run the other updates seperately, and still maintain the ability to 'uninstall' any of the ones that give you trouble.

I use RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack. He has 3 different versions. You can use nLite to integrate whichever pack you choose after you slipstream SP2.
