Hey guys, My Specs are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz 1024 MB DDR SDRAM Radeon 9800 XT Audigy 2 ZS 2 WD Harddrives Raid 0 NTFS 1 WD Harddrive w/Swap file NTFS 1 USB 2.0 External Harddrive NTFS The problem started a few days ago and I haven't changed any of the hardware. What's happing is when I click on any program icon, my USB drive will randomly start thrashing for about 20-40 seconds, which locks the program until it stops thrashing. I have used ad-aware, spybot, hijackthis, microsoft antispyware and zonealarms spyware programs but found nothing. I have also scanned for viruses with avast virus scanner, again nothing... Windows is up to date with patches. I can access the USB drive perfectly, read and write from it. I have defraged it and Scandisked it. I have installed a different disk into the USB case but I still have the same problem. I also reconnected all the cables. At this moment, I am transfering my files to a different disk so I can reformat my USB drive although I doubt this will help since the other disk I tried had the same problem. Any suggestions would be THE COOLEST!!! |

Have you tried going into the device mgr and removing the drivers for it? After a reboot it will reinstall them. That's the first thing I always try when hardware issues are popping up.
