XP File Search Doesn't Work?
So a while back I turned off indexing on my drives (allows faster searching)....and I haven't used search until today. I downloaded the 41.80 drivers and needed to find them, and search wouldn't work. Just gave me an error titled "Search Companion" no no text in the box.. I am reenabling indexing now to see if that was it....but it takes forever to reenable (so many files).... Anyone got a clue as to why search does that to me?
Update: Enabling indexing didn't help......WTF!!?!?!? I can't find where the file was saved.....sssssssshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiit.

I wish I knew how to help - this happened to my last Windows install, but when I upgraded a few days later I reinstalled Windows just so I could have a clean start including a fixed search option, so I never really fixed it, I just overwrote it. Maybe a 3rd party program would work for a searching program until you figure this out. Perhaps its possible to reinstall parts of Windows selectivelysubliminalpr0nmessage

I have had similar problems. I have used the advanced options and told it to search all files. I was looking for some text in a set of files and I found that I would search html files but ignored text files (.txt) What a crock. I am using Power Searcher v.1.3 - freeware - available at Nonags.com .
