I'm running WinXP Home, fresh install. After opting to run a disk check with either Windows disk-checker or Nortons and then restarting as to run it, it goes to the disk-checker screen and says; "cannot open volume for direct access", then it finnishes booting Windows. How can I fix this?

Well, I'm not sure, but heres how I fixed it. I restarted my computer and during boot tapped the F8 key (as you would do to opt to go into SafeMode). Among the options was one called; "Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)" I selected that hit enter Windows executed something then restarted. I was then able to run disk-checker.
Something seemed to be denying Windows access to the disk, so I figured by using Directory Services Restore Mode it would fix the problem, and it did!. |
