Command Prompt Disabled by Admin? (WXP)
I just tried to run command prompt and it said it has been disabled by the administrator. I am the administrator and don't recall doing such a thing on my computer. I have set myelf up with adminstrative access on my regular user account yet I still can't use command prompt.
What I'm obviously getting at is does anyone know how I can enable it?

Can you please elaborate more on what you are talking about? What is the system, exactly, how is it set up, etc. so on and so forth. To be perfectly honest, I have heard this kind of request before from people wanting help for hacking into systems that they want administrative access on, and as an administrator you SHOULD be able to access the command prompt...

I have access to it, but only if I go into my Windows/System32 folder and right-click run as on cmd.exe and login that way. Its a huge inconvenience when trying to go back and play my DOS games. I'm studying to be a network admin and we haven't gotten to this stuff yet. Hacking? Ummm no I have no desire to hack anyone.

Well, if you have access to it like that, then why don't you simply make a link to it, or bind a name to it so you can run it from the Start->Run comand?

I've tried that it doesn't work for logging in, and I can fully understand why MS has blocked scripting passwords into shortcuts.

ok I messed around and figured out how to make the shortcut but I'd really prefer a method that didn't force me into logging in everytime if at all possible if you are afraid I'm trying to hack I suppose I can post a screenshot of my computer users, all whopping me & the Guest account

I wasn't afraid you were trying to hack after you responded - most script kiddies would have just high tailed it - sorry about saying that, but it's happened to me before where I helped some kid gain entry to a system that "he lost the password" to, and I've always learned later that it wasn't a good idea...... I don't get what you mean by "logging in" though. What are you logging into with a command line?

I'm not logging into anything its command prompt itself I have to login in order to use. But when I right click "run as" and login through that it grants access to run it just that one time. I'll grab a screenshot of how I have to do it if you don't get it still

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, if your talking about when you logged into the desktop your unable to run it then
You can disable or enable the abilty to execute the command prompt through the group policy editor type gpedit.msc into the run box then look through various options it's in there. GPEDIT is however only available in XP Professional/Corp editions EDIT: If you mean it's not on the start menu then right-click and bring up the properties and the option to show it should be on there somewhere, if you mean something else or other situation you'll have to explain more
