Updated Monitor Driver on Windows Update Site

Just thought that I would post this to let everyone know that MS have posted this update.

I downloaded and installed this, and I would have to say that there is a noticable improvement in the IQ on my monitor.

I would also speculate that this is possibly in conjuction with DX9 being released, and the improvment in the refresh area of the newer CAT drivers being released from ATI etc.

I would post a link, but lets face if you do not know how to access the windows update, then better ask your Mom.

I have a better idea - why don't you post a link so that we can see which update you are talking about, then we will be able to talk about it. As it is, there are thousands of fixes for Windows XP that you can be talking about. Also, might I recommend that you post a link so that you can prove you know more than just how to open Windows Update from XP, which takes little to no talent (well, now that I think about it, so would providing a link...)

I just hit Windows Update, and what did I find??

An nForce2 audio driver update, nothing else.

Seeing as monitor 'drivers' aren't actually drivers at all, just listings of refresh ranges and resolutions supported....

Sounds like BS... Smells like BS...

Plus, it's only for YOUR monitor, which most of us probably don't have.

DirectX has NOTHING to do with monitors. Nothing at all.

Any other points you made that I haven't addressed?

System Specs

Woah!

Ok,

Well... Cant we all get along?

If the guy wanted to post something that he thought "might" help some people out.... why not let him? He only thought he was posting a good update...

And we all know that not all of us are as thoughtful as others, why not just except the post for what it is and not start stomping on others good intentions?

Thanks anyway,

MadGoat

Monitor drivers are sometimes real drivers, in the case of certain *coughbuggycough* LCD's and CRT's where the color balance has to be drastically changed... And no offense, Forge, but anything in a computer has to do with the monitor, at the end. It's pretty hard to see what your hardware is doing without a monitor, and I can't think of a single piece of software that has never involed a monitor...

Hey AT, you're not the only one. I got the update as well. And after I installed it on my laptop the monitors changed from "Default Monitor" to "Default Monitor (winseset)". The drivers are dated 11/11/02 and the version is 20.0.2195.20.

I'd post a link but I think most Windows users know how to get to the Windows Update.

However, not all of us are seeing it in Windows Update, meaning that none of us can have a decent conversation about what it did unless we know what update you are talking about (through you posting a link instead of doing an annoying and insisting that we should just use Windows Update, which isn't working for the others of us...). Might I recommend that one of you guys stop being lazy and find a link, or at least give us the fix number so we can know what update you are talking about?

Don't worry, that's the last time this will be said in this thread....I ain't a super-mod for nothing.

Could you folks just try and imagine that there might just be one or two folks on this site who don't trust M$ enough to just trust their baby to clicking the "update" button? Could you PLEASE just post the link?

If nothing else, don't post that condescending line again. It won't stay up long.

I have a KDS Visual Sensations 19" monitor and there was an update for it. It was version 1.0.0.1 It was something like 600+k to download.

The only thing that I noticed is that it backed off the hertz in 1600x1200 by 5 hertz, now my max is only 70 at that resolution when using RefreshLock.

And of course, I had to resize all my screens.

Other than that, I haven't seen ANYTHING different.

Ask and ye shall recieve

You can maually search from the Windows update page. Instead of clicking on scan for updates button Click on the Windows Catalog at the upper left of the pageor under see also if enabled.
From there you can manually search for updates for either windows operating systems (even win 98) or hardware by clicking on the appropriate button. You can even view your download history to check and see if you've missed a previous update or if it failed.

Actually going to the Windows Update website and checking to see what updates there are won't put anyone's "baby" at risk. So I think it's just a matter of people being a tad too paranoid about Microsoft.

The there is no "link" or "fix number" posted on the Windows Update website. All the information that was on it I gave in an earlier post.

But seeing as how some of you don't see it so it must not exist. Weird, huh?

Edit #1:

The proof is in the pudding. And here is the pudding...well sort of..

Upon further investigation, I found that it put a profile in the "Color Management" tab of my display properties, I was getting ALOT more break-up with the flash-bulb flashes in WWE RAW during the entrances(even though it only runs in lamo 640x480). I removed that profile and got my extra 5htz back in 1600x1200 and the break-up went away in WWE RAW. Other things I noticed were jittery animation in 3DMark and other proggies with that profile. So it got YANK-ola'd.

It's one of those things where it makes you wonder what M$ could have possibly thought was the benfit of this update. I mean, I saw absolutely NO improvement at all, only the development of more silly glitches. Must be something like newer monitor revisions that needed fixing or something, because it sure didn't make anything better on MY monitor. Mine is about 8 months old.

Whatever.........

Interesting - I have always had a profile in my "Color Management" tab (two actually, but one is for 5400K that I never use) - what is your monitor brand and model?

I'm still not seeing anything in Windows Update, though that might be because I installed monitor profiles for my monitor (P991 FD Trinitron, 19") with the Cd that came with the monitor when I first installed this copy of Windows XP on my comp...
