using remote desktop + power options

Ive used remote desktop for some time now, but recently my bed and laptop have begun occupying the same room as the desktop, and when i use remote desktop i notice that the screen NEVER turns off. If i dont use RD in 10 minutes the screen blanks and then turns off (dell 2005FPW)
this isnt bad - i can use the power switch but the 10 min time out is nice for getting into bed - little night light for 10 min
Does RD disable screensaver / power options to turn off the display? it does run the SV after about 20 minutes (not what i have the logged in setting as) and just has the xp logo bounce around..
is there a way to make it turn off with the power options or would i need to try to use "blank" for a ss?

1. Open Regedit.
2. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\
3. See what the value is for "CurrentPowerPolicy"
4. Navigate to: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg
5. Change the "CurrentPowerPolicy" value to match what is in the other key.
6. Close Regedit and reboot.

When the machine is sitting at the Welcome Screen, which is what happens when you log in using Remote Desktop, the Power Options are different than when it's logged into a user account. So, by changing the Default Global Power Policy match your own, this should give you the same monitor blanking and screen saver options. You can't change this value thru the the GUI, you have to use Regedit.

Let me know if that solves the issue.
