Win2k info request..
Hey guys..
I'm planning.. err, well -- not really planning, more of "thinking" about upgrading my OS to Win2k (I hate XP. I've already tried it, but I really did not like it.).. I was wondering if there's any website(s) out there to learn about tweaking Win2k? or things and facts I should know about? I've never cared for any OS other than Win98se, so I've never read or even followed anything about any other OS.. Or if any of you could just list or voice out anything about it, that'd be great. =) Thanks..

I would seriously recommend giving XP a shot.
With about a half-hour of time put in, XP is like a supercharged version of Win2k.. I speak as a former 2k user who hated XP for the first 3 months. Hell, I'm even using the Dock (er... XP Start Menu, heh heh... all resemblance to Apple products is purely coincidental, neh?) now... that said, I believe http://www.Tweak3d.net has a Win2k tweak guide, and http://www.ArsTechnica.com might, as well.

I dunno.. I tried WinXP for about a month, but I just didn't like it..
There were all these quirks I didn't like (small things that bothered me).. plus, my virtual desktop program didn't seem to like XP.. and it was *that* problem that really bothered me.. Without my 5 extra desktops, i'm not productive. =P Maybe in the far, far future, i'll give it another chance.. but for now.. =P And I know Tweak3D has a guide, but I don't think it's up to date.. i go there everyday as kind of a habit.. I've been going there for years now.. -- Just did a quick check and they're all made in 2000.. would they still be applied, even after installing the service packs? The one thing I'm hestitant about leaving Win98se is the ultra fast reboots.. =) Since I don't keep my computer on all the time (off during the night), the sub 30sec boot up time is really nice.. and the Shift+Reboot sub 15sec windows restart is something I love.. personally, I don't see why people don't like Win98se.. they say it's very unstable but I find it to be very stable.. hell, the only time it screws up on me is if I do something to screw it up..

I am thinking of switching from Win98SE to Win 2000 Pro on my gaming machine. I use 2000 Pro at my office and like it very much. But, I don't know how well it works for gaming.
I do not want to buy XP right now. When I build a new system late this year I will probably switch to XP. |

I used Win2K for gaming for a long time. Once you have the necessary service packs installed to allow direct x 8 or better it works just fine. I can't remember but i think it's SP2 that allows you to update DirectX
