XP - audio isn't very OS dependant, and XP is simply the easiest to work with and the stablest...

Depends on one thing...

SCSI drives? If you're using SCSI, you'll need Windows 2000 pro or so... Windows XP has notoriously bad SCSI performance... even though it's improved in SP1, it's still paltry compared to Windows 2000's performance. If you're using standard IDE/ATA drives, though, XP Pro all the way.

*Edit: Linux.

UberLord will become famous soon enough

I think that which soundcard and driver is more important than OS

System Specs

DirectX 8.1 has broken DirectSound in most things (from what I heard), so if you care about sound, use 2000, or upgrade to DirectX 9 and most problems are fixed

Use either Window 2000 or XP Pro. All the 9x OSs are junk.
