DXDIAG - system.dll missing

After the latest .NET Framework 2.0 has been downloaded and installed, I've just noticed that DXDIAG is showing that the system.dll is missing. (The latest system.dll is now located in the .NET Framework 2.0 directory and DXDIAG apparently doesn't know where to find it now.)

The prompt I get is that I should reinstall DirectX to restore the file. Well, that has never worked and doesn't now. Even in Safemode, it won't work.

I've been doing a search around the 'NET for the past few days and haven't come across a solution. At least, so far, my games all still work fine.

Any ideas from the great gurus here?

EDIT: There is an October Update for DirectX 9.0c. I downloaded and installed it and, lo and behold, it added a new system.dll to the file list. However, the old system.dll is still showing up with an Exclamation mark on it and I'm still being told that system.dll is missing.

try removing all of the Microsoft .NET Frameworks first. and reinstall it(them) after you have the DirectX 9.0c and its updates reinstalled.

also, before reinstall both the DirectX and .NET Frameworks make sure that you do not disable any default services of the Windows XP. but do disable all of the running in background third-party programs.
