just make a backup of all your files to be safe, although nothing should be lost..
its worth it, mp9 is far superior to the previous versions, its the first one i have actually liked using, just make sure you opt out of all the new security "features" or you wont be able to play files you encode with mp9 on any other pc

i've had problems with many of beta and rc releases. i've also heard some horror stories of people who got the final release before hand and from what i've heard it hasn't been good. i think i'm gonna hold out till i here some more on this thread before installing this one. or...at least untill i get bored and feel like mucking up my machine and doing a reinstall if it goes bad.

my system just goes haywire after i install it. maybe something else i'm running on my system it doesn't like. who knows. i'm known for breaking and reinstalling all the time, so maybe i'll give it another try here when i get some time to break it and reinstall it. i've heard system restore doesn't work when try to undo it. same with dx9 it won't get rid of everything, so when you do it it just makes things worse. i'll post my experience when i give it a try.

if you need to you could do a repair install of windows and that would remove dx9 and/or mp9 from your system, without losing all your files...

eeh...i don't mind reinstalling all the time. the more i do it the better and more efficient i get at it. plus it helps me figure out what programs to use and which ones to stay away from when i build computers on the side.

alrighty...i broke down and installed WMP9 while i was studyin for one of certification exams. it looks like everything went over well. but yea as neon cowboy said it i had problems with the RCs in playing some formats as well. hmm...oh well we will see how long it runs before problems arise. it's a microsoft product so it'll mess up sooner or later...hehe...

it kinda screwed me. when i tried to view any windows media files it would crash and prompt to send an error report... ya right.... I was also unable to restore to any point that was prior to the install of DX9 and/or Media Player 9 while any point between the two would restore without a problem. Me thinks they are trying to snoop way too much for my liking

I notice a difference when playing dvd movies

My dvd movies display a little bit different in fullscreen mode the window becomes smaller when moving the mouse which can be a pain when using an opitcal mouse that is real sensitive. I know how to turn that down but I do not want to so do not try to tell me how to fix because I know how to. Other than that I like being able to change the color of the player easily.

later

I just wish they would cut all the fancy crap out. I still love 6.4 for its simplicity. No extra junk to get in the way of watching my fav movie(s)

Anything to the rumors of "spyware" caliber things coming with WMP9? Like they track what you're listening to, you're playlists, what music you might download via whatever bloated app they've included in it. Again, just rumors, but still a valid concern.

I'm still on WMP7 and it kicks bootay over any Winamp, Sonique, etc that I've compared with. Uses a little more CPU than the others but the difference in sound quality is so worth it.

Ahem:
http://www.petri.co.il/wmp_spyware.htm - notice the "Page last updated" date, only a couple of weeks ago. And the link at the bottom is for WMP 9.

Looks like you can disable it...as far as you know, but I don't like the implications.
