Problem with BIOS, Motherboard....umm really not sure HELP PLEASE...laughs
I am new to this so please bear with me. I have a dilemma that is drivin me nuts. I run DSL and am connected to a hub. A few months ago our internet provider got attacked with a virus that hit thier server which in turn hit alot of people in our community..I believe i am one of those people. At the time I had my main computer running and my son's. We found out that when you go to log in to Yahoo or an Internet explorer address bar any information that it will scroll yahoo login names and passwords thta were used on that particular computer. SO i did the normal thing re:cleaned it..this did not work after several failed attempts with diffferent programs. Then decided to reformat..this also did not work..the problem was still there. I decided I had another computer on the way and to set that one aside for awhile till I could think.
I got another computer and hooked it up...well, well, well...this competer had never been logged into by any of the names that it tooo was now scrolling...repeated same thing re: cleaned and reformatted many times...still did not work. Went to reformat again and now it won't reformat...come to find out this scrolling is hotkeyed by the small l key. Tried to go in and disable that hotkey....the computer will not let me. I cannot find the name of this on the computer and it is not being flagged by any virus scanner. This is driving me crazy...yes I am a woman and yes I am blonde but sheeeeeesh I not dumb but this thing kickin mah tushy....giggles. Can anyone please help me before I use these computers as door stoppers...lol. I dis BTW replace my modem just incase...but do not have another computer to test on. One more thing my main computer which has been hooked up the entire time has NEVER been affected which is really confusing. Help da crazy blonde woman thats goin insane ___________________________________________ Mecca |

Phone your ISP and scream at them and make them have a tech guy come in and fix it.
I'd normally never reccomend that but you seem to be stumped and it sounds like something on their end. BTW when you say cleaned did you completely reformat that computer, i..e. wipe the ENTIRE drive(s) clean and start over? And disconnect them from the network? Then reconnect it after that? If you did that and it still happens sue your ISP

Are you using the same mouse and or keyboard on these 2 machines that are having the issue? It could be that you have a bad piece of hardware there causing scrolling. I honestly can't see how a virus hitting your ISP can affect a new PC that had never been hooked up- especially when it hadn't ever been logged into any of these programs before.
I also need to know if you had reformatted the first computer, because any virus that is resident on the hard drive would be wiped out when formatting.

Virii are smart these days, if any one of those machines was on the network at the same time as the new one it could just affect every undefended IP within the NAT DHCP table |

I understand that, but if its a diffeent PC then it would have a different MAC ID number on its NIC, therefore it would receive a different IP address. If its true about the ISP getting hit like she says, then maybe its time to get a different ISP.

I did reformat the hard drive by using fdisk but as u know that will leave the 13 windows files still on the computer and when I go in to use the command to get them out it will not let me which I am now thinking after further digging that the virus is in one of those files and is giving me a fit.............I am also thinking that it is or is similar to a W32.NETSKY.D VIRUS(it seems to have some of the same symptoms when it affects a computer)......... answer to other questions---- the computers where not connected to the HUB THAT I RUN at the same time......I am thinking that the hub was somehow infected and have since stopped using it, I also went and got a new modem from my ISP but when I explained the problem they looked at me as if I were stupid and told me to reformat or take it to a repair shop and I said lady I repair my own computers and taking 4 into a shop whos paying for it lol.....well they obviously have idiots for techs there so no help from them(not that I am suprised)...when I talked about them backing info into my computer they said whats that and I am like nm sheeesh hide it all you want to but I will fix that problem so you can't do it again.........the mouse and keyboard are not the problem.........the virus is triggered by the small L key.....thats what starts the scrolling.
I am still stumped but am trying hard to get this problem fixed....I just need another way to completly wipe this hard drive. ______________________ Mecca |

I think you'll find that to be satisfactory ![]() Wipe ALL your PC's. No known virus can withstand a good Nuke. @Yousaif: MAC address isn't what I was talking about, the machine still has to be inside the hub's DHCP table to be connected so all the virus has to do is infect everything in the DHCP table, MAC address nonwithstanding |

Hmmm when you say Hub do you mean router? It sure sounds like to me the virus is in your boot sector of one or more of your drives. Not only do you need to format, but you need to write all zero to the drive.

Hair colour is no excuse..... I have long blonde hair, doesn't make me any less adept with computers.

I was using a hub as I stated before but at this time I am not sharing my DSL at all until I get the router......I am also unable to get those computers back onto the internet until I fix them as well. they are unable to connect to the internet because of the scrolling.
Can you tell me how to zero out a hard drive I have never done that before. __________ Mecca |
