Solution for installing x64 Ati Radeon Xpress 200M getting Thunk.exe missing inf file
For those who have headache installing Win Xp x64 Ati Radeon Xpress 200M getting "Thunk.exe missing inf file".
The solution here is combining the ATI external standard installation with internal driver installation and also Choggi's #19 please refer to http://www.hardwareheaven.com/windows-xp-2k-radeon-display-drivers/69335-common-problems-fixes.html 1. First is getting the driver. In the european site Acer support http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html select Acer Aspire 5020 then select the ATI driver for MS Windows XP 64Bit Drivers/Utilities for Aspire 5020 only ATi VGA Driver 8.132-050503a1-023557C (you might want to ftp for faster download). The Acer Aspire 5030, like mine, also using Ati Radeon Xpress 200M. 2. Extract it, you will get \VGA, then run Setup in \VGA. 3. You will get warning "Thunk.exe missing inf file" just click OK, then after finished installing South Bridge driver then reboot. 4. After reboot, you will get warning that the Ati control center cannot be loaded. Fine. 5. Copy ati2saag.exe from \system32 into \Syswow64. I don't know this step did the trick, you might want to skip it to experience let me know. I combined this step from Choggi's #19 please refer to http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthread.php?t=69335 6. This step just update driver for the graphics adapter, the complete process (for newbie like me): Display properties -> Advanced -> Adapter tab -> click Properties -> Driver tab -> Update Driver ... -> select No, not this time -> Install from a specific location -> Don't search. I will choose the driver to install -> Have Disk then browse into \VGA\Driver\XP64A_INF then select "CA_23557.inf", next just OK-ing everything, then rebooting. 7. Windows starts with appropriate resolution 1280x800 and correct adapter ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. In the right corner there is ATI control center, seemed not Catalyst center. Anyway I intend to use it for dual monitor for projector, so as long as I see the dual monitor option in Display Properties I'm fine with it (haven't tried it though). Opening "CA_23557.inf", these steps seemed working for X200, X600 and X700. As a newbie I still have some questions lingered: Many people said "just get the Omega driver for ATI and choose IGP!" What is Omega anyway, some kinda graphics company? and what is IGP?. I have no clue what type my Ati Radeon Xpress 200M is. Apreciated if someone can share step-by-step explanations. Next attention is x64 for my soundcard Realtek, using the x64 sound driver for Acer Aspire 5020, is not working. Will look around this site. regards, Dandy Last edited by altec_1; Jul 20, 2006 at 11:36 AM. |

i'm guessing that manually installing it is probably why you didnt get the error.
Omega releases a modded version of the radeon drivers, you can see his website for some more info on them. http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/ati_faq.php your Xpress 200M is an integrated graphics processor (igp). http://www.ati.com/products/Radeonxpress200m/index.html what happens with your soundcard? |

Dear Choggi:
Manual installation will not show up any list, I could not remember exactly ... for sure no list shown to select the adapters. I think your step copying "ati2saag.exe" into \SysWow64 did the trick. Because I think many people know how to do manual installation PLUS automatic (external) installation ... but yet their Radeon Xpress 200M driver cannot be installed ... and end up banging their heads. About the Omega driver ... I tried searching on: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php But how to select the correct one for winxp64? Selecting Win 2K/XP on top? My soundcard it's kinda long story: Since I could not get x64 driver SoundMax AC97 of my Acer Aspire 5030 (not supplied by Acer), hence I replacing it with x64 Realtek AC97 of Aspire 5020, it does not work either. Then when I found the correct one for x64 Soundmax driver at MSI site: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...=3&CHIP=3&ID=1 Auto install do no work, telling me the windows platform do not match. Then manual install: The realtek drivers installed in windows impede this installation. Selecting Soundmax inf file results installing Realtek driver. The thing is the Realtek driver CANNOT be removed via Windows Add/Remove Programs and this problem happened to many people found in many forums. But somehow I could remove it using one file remover inside Realtek installer, then finally manually remove Realtek via Windows Add/Remove Programs. Again Auto install do no work, telling me the windows platform do not match (I began to wonder whether the programmer checked this driver or not before releasing it). Then manual installation x64 Soundmax driver, and it works. -Dandy Last edited by altec_1; Jul 18, 2006 at 01:01 PM. |

as far as i know omega hasnt released an x64 driverset, so i'm not really certain why someone told you to use it.
maybe using the offical ati drivers with the mobility modder will work? which did you try installing? ADI SoundMAX (AD1888) Drivers Realtek ALC Series Drivers ps. in case you havent heard of it drivercleaner can remove lots of different drivers http://drivercleaner.net/ |

Yeah I don't know why some people just mentioned it, maybe it works for them. Anyway since Omega has not released x64 driverset, I am happy with this official ATI driver although some tricks needed. (I wonder why ATI programmers did not check at least once). I installed both SoundMax and Realtek: ADI SoundMAX (AD1888) Drivers Realtek ALC Series Drivers So I remove the Realtek drivers, using Realtek file itself. Then installing SoundMax like previously. http://drivercleaner.net/ woah thanks man, I will check. -Dandy |

Re: Solution for Ati Radeon Xpress 200M getting "Thunk.exe missing inf file"
After pulling my hair trying to update my ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 on my Aspire 5100, I realized that windoze updater had the uncanny ability to install the correct drive! To my amazement, I installed the "Optional" Hardware updates, checked all that applied to my machine, including Sound drivers!
![]() After a quick download, install and reboot- Voila! I have the correct resolution! Hopes this helps! |
