Welcome to DriverHeaven, teo007!
As much as I hate to keep saying it, there's a definite compatibility problem between ATI video cards and the VIA chipset. AND, to be blunt, the main problem lies with VIA's AGP motherboard driver. There have been innumerable posts over the years about this issue. Many people have found success by doing one or the other...or a combination of either of the following: 1. Turn off Fastwrites in the BIOS settings; 2. Lower AGP from 8x to 4x; 3. Use the Microsoft AGP drivers rather than the VIA AGP drivers; 4. Boost voltage to the AGP bus by one notch in the BIOS; 5. Lower Hardware Acceleration by one notch. To read many other options, you can check through the post on the VIA Arena forum here: VIA Arena - VPU RECOVER My own personal solution -- after too many problems with VIA chipset motherboards: Don't buy anymore motherboards using VIA chipsets.

You can try to do a manual Driver Update from the Device Manager. Just be sure to point to the directory where you extracted the 7.11 version of the drivers. You'll also have to do this twice -- once for the Primary and again for the Secondary.
Good luck! |

Thank you for posting this message ^_^
Seems I haven't been paying attention, since this is actually (sadly) the first time I have ever heard of incompatibility between Via chipsets and Ati cards. Considering that I've been running a 9600 Pro for years and now a x1650 Pro for just a few months (all on the same old Via motherboard) I guess I've been one of the lucky ones. Anyway, the reason I want to say thank you is because although things have been working decently, I did have the occasional blue screen, or a game that wouldn't want to work properly, but I've always been blaming that on my outdated hardware (some of it is still 10 years old). After reading this though I got rid of the Via Agp drivers and started using the Microsoft ones (which are a few years older) and low and behold, no more bluescreens as of yet. Also, those games that gave me trouble before seem to work now. Even if the problem might not be fixed completely, there is a definite improvement. Knowing what I do now of course I'll get a motherboard with a different chipset next time, if my wallet is willing ^-^ Regards Davoren |

Hopefully, it will save others the headaches we've both had (and likely thousands of others!) with the problems this combination has created. Cheers! |
