Latest Omega drivers (2.5.9) and laptop

I've got a laptop with a mobility radeon 9000 64 mb graphics card and everytime I play a video my computer chrashes! I know there was a bug in the system and I should update my bios but Acer didn't provide me with newer drivers. So is there still hope for me? cause I don't want to install 6 month old drivers!

Welcome to the forums spaceman. What's your exact question? Are you wondering if you should install the Omega drivers?

In any event they are compatible with mobility chipsets so you could give them a shot and see if your system works any better with them installed.

Ahh video files! All right. Try disabling WMV acceleration from the options menu within the driver options and reboot afterwards. Did this happen with the normal 8.07 betas or the official Catalyst drivers as well?

Right click on your desktop, goto properties. From there click on the settings tab and then the advanced button. Once there click on the options tab (I believe) and look for WMV acceleration. You can disable it from there.

I don't have this option in the "option bar"
just these:
Activate all warning messages
enable the application ATI-taskpictogram
disable fast resolutionfunction

All right. In that case do you have the Omega drivers installed or the normal ATi Catalyst drivers?

I have the same problems! In games like CS or W3 the driver works very well and this games work better now.
But if I launch a video on my laptop, with the new omegadriver you can see only a black screen and the laptop doesn't accept any keys.
Acer has no new drivers on theire homepage, only these from 2002.
It would be very nice if anybody could help us helpless notebook-users!

thank's cyber

I have an ATI 9700 mobile 128mb and I have that wmv acceleration button. It is activated and every video, dvd aso works great so far, no problems.

Perhaps wmv acc for notebooks is only with 9600/9700 and x800 chips (9800 mobile) available.

Ditto. No problem whatsoever on my mobility 9600 Pro 128Mb with WMV.

Same problem here, have a mobility radeon 9000 (64 mb ram, like it matters ) and all the videofiles just don't display anything. They do give sound though. And when trying to exit the videoplayer, the entire system crashes. Not nice.

Mainsite here said something about updating the bios, but Acer's last online bios update is actually older than the one that came with my laptop. -_-

Does anybody know if this problem also has effect on various intro movies to games? (Like what blizzard has, for example.)

Perhaps it would help to reduce or disable the hardware acceleration of the video players settings.

Media Player for example

Tools -> Options -> Performance -> Video acceleration

System Specs

Same problem with my HP Pavilion ze4524ea, IGP 320M. I rather use the old 2002-2003 drivers than the new omega 5.6, otherwise my videoapps will hang or "no video overlay enabled" messages or very bad videoquality.
