Can't get refresh rate to go above 60 hz

I have a Sony Multiscan E200 17" CRT. The manufacturer's recommended resolution/refresh rate is 1024x768 at 85 hz. Well, I had been using this setting for a long time, but I decided to install the Catalysts 4.12 betas and used Refresh Force to lock a refresh rate to my current resolution. After that the only way I can change the refresh rate to something higher than 60 hz is using Powerstrip custom timing feature. Both Windows and CCC shows the refresh rate is 85 hz, but when I access the monitor menu (by pressing the monitor's button you usually use to adjust brightness, etc) it shows 60 hz. I've tried installing the drivers for this monitor (the ones for Windows 2000, there are no drivers for Windows XP), but nothing changed. Tried uninstalling the 4.12 beta and installing the 4.12 official driver, and the issue remains. I would appreciate any help you guys could give me with this matter. Thanks.

I already tried using Reforce to reset settings... didn't work... and the DDC toggle option is always greyed out for me (not supported).

Well, I tried installing the plug and play driver by updating it via the Properties button under the Monitor tab (the one in Video properties -> Advanced)... then I went to Monitor Properties -> Attributes at the Control Center (don't have the CP, but I suppose it's all the same) and it's there: "Display Data Channel (DDC): Not Supported"

EDIT: I'll try uninstalling the CC and using the CP... thanks for the tips.

Well... used the CP and now it works perfectly... just went to the "Exibition" tab, then opened the monitor properties... DDC was greyed out but ticked (still, under DCC info it said "DCC: Not Supported)... so I just set the refresh rate to 85 Hz under "Maximum refresh rate" (or something like that, I'm translating from portuguese) and voilá. Very strange, don't know why CC doesn't work. I remember it used to work. Also, bAKe, I saw nothing related to EDID on the Control Panel... in the CC this feature was greyed out and ticked, but every time I tried to set 85 hz for 1024x768 it would simply reset to 60. At the CP, where should the EDID setting you mentioned be located? Anyway, thanks alot for your help guys.

I have a similar problem with my 6 year old Sony Triitron monitor. I keep my settings at 1024X768 at 85Hz. When I first install the CCC and new Drivers, this all started with the cat 4.9's I think, all goes well and everthing works great. Then about a month later, about a day or two before the new cats come out my refresh rate goes to 60Hz. This is from a cold boot. Then I have a hard time getting it back to 85Hz. I finally have to reboot and reboot severaly times to get it to go back to 85Hz. The computer settings say the refresh rate is 85Hz, but the monitor says 60Hz when checking manualy with the button on the monitor. Plus you can see so much flikker at 60Hz it gives me a bad headache. If this keeps up I am going to retire this old monitor and buy that ViewSonic I have my eye on. What do you guys think.

I doubt the monitor is your problem. Most likely a driver issue. The only thing that worked for me was using Control Panel instead of Control Center. Try doing that.

Well, I didn't use Driver Cleaner this time... instead I followed the driver removal instructions from the Catalyst guide at TweakGuides.com.

Just a quick question to those having refreshrate problems in ccc. Do you had the old CP installed before installing CCC?

I know i had refreshrate problems missing options with ccc when i only installed the drivers without the old CP and then installed the CCC.

I think it's important to note that you should have the old CP installed before installing CCC or you may get some problems.I'm not 100% sure whether this is how it's supposed to be but it is my experience anyway.

I always uninstall all old ATI software (drivers and control panel or control center) before installing anything newer. Don't think it should be a problem.

Well it's just an idea but it might be worth a try for those having refreshrate issues in CCC because i know it did fix it for me

I think I'll just stick with Control Panel... much faster anyway.

Me to ww2 . Just finished installing the new Ati Drivers with CP, not with the CCC like I did the last three times. Works much better. Faster as well, as you said. Until they fix this CCC and/or until the new .netframework comes out, I am sticking with the good old control panel.
