DirectX 9 Help

Is it necessary to install the DirectX 9 BRC0 drivers on my ATi card in order to run the DX9 beta?

It also seems that I've been having some problems with my card. When starting Madden NFL 2003, sometimes my computer freezes, causing me to restart. Upon restart, I get a message about the display driver not responding. Is this a "my system" type problem, or is it a DX9 beta-related problem..

Oh..here's some specs:
Biostar MB - m7vkb I believe
Latest 4-in-1's
XP Pro + SP1
Sound Blaster Live Value - No sound acceleration
Linksys 10/100 NIC

Only if you want to run the ATI DirectX9 demos.

But be warned that DX9 RC1 doesn't NOT work with the demos as they are coded for DX9 RC0

I just noticed something else..when testing Direct3D from the dxdiag, the DX7, DX8, and DX9 cubes spin like crazy. So much so that you can't really make out which side is which. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah - I get that as well. I've also got a few games that don't work with the ATI DirectX9 beta drivers, so I went back to the Cat 2.4's

Still got DirectX9 RC1 installed though

Do you get the super-fast spinning with the Catalyst 2.4s? After I noticed it with the DX9 drivers, I reinstalled the 2.2's and still had the problem. Maybe 2.4's are the way to go with DX9 for now..

No - it spins fine.
It also spins the DirectX9 cube fine as well. This indicates that the 2.4's do have some preliminary DX9 code in

Newer is (nearly) always better

it spins like that until you enable v-sync, then it will spin at normal speed: I think it applies for all drivers as well as DX8.1.

Before Starwars Galaxies comes out as that game has DirectX9 only special effects. Thats slated for Jan/Feb next year.

I'm hoping that it's out before christmas

Isn't enabling vsync going to decrease performance?

Erm, and the DX9 cube will spin just fine so long as DX9 is installed... don't need DX9 drivers for that basic bit of code.

Just rembembered - NFL 2003 shits about TruForm, if you have it as option, TURN IT OFF (solved crashes on Radeon 8500).

heh getting the very fast spinning cube?? for me that is awesome,,the speed on DX9 is so great when it comes to direct 3d its pure power4, I look at that in a good way, since I have higher marks on my direct 3d and opengl benchmarks the faster the better, but I stll use the beta patched version of DX9, if anyone knows where I can get the latest timebomb patch for the latest DX9 drivers that would be swell

Not me..

I had no problems downloading them. It did take awhile though..approx. 20 minutes through the university's T1. Maybe that's your problem?
