ahh problem with my catalyst 5.6 video driver

hello guys, this is my first post so i hope u guys can help, thanz in advance.

well here my problem: once i downloaded this new video driver, (catalyst 5.6) while playing games such as counterstrike: condition zero or warcraft 3: frozen throne. My computer randomly freezes and crashes resulting in a restart or leads me to the desktop and a message pops up and tells me that my video driver is not responding to its commands with my video card. (resulting in my VPU recovery to act up)

Btw i run on an Xp with Sp 2 at 2.8ghz 1g ram, and with a 9800 radeon video card.

I've searched multiple times on google and tried their suggested advice such as unistalling all drivers from the add/remove programs menu, restart, use driver cleaner, lastly installing the new 5.6 video driver. However, this proved ineffective as my computer still restarts often, and crashes. Also i've tried to use the latest omega drive for radeon 9800 but it didn't work either. Any suggestions?

thanx.

More then likely that will solve the problem yes, I've heard horror stories about VPU Recovery and the issues with it and games. You should be able to still disable it in CCC without a problem.

may u give me detailed instructions on how to turn it off in CCC or should i just delete CCC i think that would make it easier rite? CCC seems to restrict the options to changing settings on the actual card

Should be in options, just untick the the "VPU Recovery Settings" and reboot. I dont use the CCC so I can't specifically tell you were it is, but I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find it bro. If you want you can uninstall CCC but make sure you do it correctly and also use drivercleaner for your "extra clean" driver install and go and download the old CP 5.6.

If your going to use Drivercleaner make sure you read the readme. And if you already know how to use it then I'll just shut up

No it's called Catalyst Control Centre, it's a form of tweaking your drivers to get the best possible performance out of them. So no worries just read the first paragraph of my Guide and that'll help you get thru it without a problem. Good Luck

thought you said you had it? lol This is the driver I use.. NGO 3.5.6 but I don't think it's a driver issue your having unless.. your not uninstalling and cleaning it properly with drivercleaner. Do me a favor and tell me what your PSU is.. PSU being your power supply, you might need something with a little more juice bro.

ahhh.... damage... both could be excellent guesses. But truthfully, i dun have a PSU unless a power bar counts as one. Also my problem only occurred when i installed the new video driver to replace my old radeon 9800 driver so mayb you need to give me detailed instructions on deleting video drivers?? Mayb im not finding all the ati programs in the add/remove programs from control panel. thanx damage again

You may need to look in "advanced mode" for it

Um... you most surely have a power supply it the thing in the back of your
case at the verry top that power comes into your system through. You need
to take the case side off and take a look at the label for the power rateings
and wattage...

Well 1st you need answer the question regarding your systems power supply
we need to knowwhat you have. It could very well be a issue released to a power
supply to weak for your system.

You also need to check and make sure the fan is spinning
and dust free on your video card.

Also Cat 5.7 will be here soon,
5.7 might fix your problem who knows...

I didn't see your post you answerd the PSU question (Homer simpon voice) Dought!
But in my defense I opened the window before you posted that, After I responded I
closed the window. I could car less what you think of the US government...

WTF is it with this flood of underpowerd PSU users this is unbeliveable???
Lest the problem is easy enough to correct.... But thier all like 250W

He's lucky.. Only a few member I know of seem to live somewaht near me
and most of them know what thier doing other wise I wouldn't mind doing that
myself. Far easier to fix something you can put your hands on...
