Can't Install Drivers for In-Built nVidia Go 6150
Hey all,
I've noticed other have been having these problems too but their solutions don't apply to me, so I figured I'd start a new thread of my own. I have a recently purchased HP dv2000z laptop, which has an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, an nVidia nForce 430/410 chipset, and an nVidia Go 6150 in-built video card. I've just now installed Windows XP Pro x64 on it, so as to take advantage of the 64-bit cpu, but of course HP doesn't support it and so I'm on my own in looking for compatible drivers. Now, I was able to install the nForce drivers to get my Ethernet and SATA HD working (and boy was it a pain to integrate it into the setup), and now I'm trying to install my video drivers so as to be able to go into Widescreen mode. So, I went on nVidia's site and tried to get the latest driver packs for the WinXP 64--the 91.31 forceware, both the BETA and regular packs. However, when trying to install, it tells me (as for everyone) that "The NVIDIA Setup Program cannot locate any drivers compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." I tried going into device manager and manually installing the drivers, but Windows didn't want to co-operate. Now, I'm sure its a Go 6150, and the nVidia site says the driver packages support it. What should I do? |

I just picked up a Pavilion dv2025nr, and it's pretty nice. But I want to update the nvidia drivers as well. I too have the same problem. I heard that this could be done by manually installing the software by first running the package, letting it fail out and leave its contents on C:\. After that, just go to the Add new hardware wizard, and specify that you have a disk. Then just browse for the drivers in the C:\Nvidia directory (can't remember the exact folder the .inf should be in) and choose the 6150.
I have not confirmed this, but it seems perfectly legitimate to me. What stops the installer from running is that Nvidia currently does not support the 6150 Go, but does support the very similar integrated desktop version. You could modify the list of cards manually, but I'm not sure of the precise name to enter. I'm 99% sure that these drivers will work, but I'm not sure that there won't be any isssues with them in this setup. If someone isn't able to try this out then I will as soon as I get out of work later today. At least it's not near as hard as the horid integrated ATI chipset I tried to get to work with updated catalyst drivers on my old Presario 2100... 320M... Oh god, I hated that thing. |

Your problem is just that those drivers are most likely for desktop cards only.
If you find the nv4_disp.inf in the installation files (most likely under "C:\NVIDIA\[driver version here]\", then you can open it up and find the section where all the video cards are listed, and then you can add yours with the proper Device ID (which can be found through the Device Manager or I believe with some program like SiSandra or whatever it's called). Your driver should now install properly!

That's the ticket...
Yeah, I couldn't remember the file to modify... I didn't know it was the inf itself. The card should work just fine with the drivers, as I've heard from many sources that they work just fine. This is typical of any integrated/ mobile hardware, as it takes to much for a company like Nvidia to try and keep up with all the variations that different companies come up with. Usually companies will come up with updated drivers specifically for their systems, but like I was saying before, HP will sometimes stop creating new updates for their hardware after a year or so, like the case with the ancient drivers they put out last for the M320 in my old craptop. Even Omega drivers screwed that beast up.
Thanks again for confirming the file name fobis. Now All I have to do is find out what the official name is for my card is. |

The "official name" doesn't matter, just the Device ID does...
