i've had tnt2 vantas that need fans, so the safe answer would be yes.

the mx200 is the slowest performer of the gf2 mx line. the gf2mx and gf2mx400 both need fans.

My Abit GF2 T400(MX400 w/tv-out) didn't come with a fan or heatsinks on it's memory! A bit of work with a hacksaw, some old heatsinks of various color, some sticky-tape, and an 80mm shoved on top made it work just fine at 240/530.

Some people say that my card is a bit uglier for my additions. Personally I think it looks better, and not that many people actually poke their nose in my case and look at in anyways.

Default Post Ok, but I gotta correct my clock speeds first.

240/420 for my GF2, sorry for the error. It was default 200/336, but I like it a LOT better this way. ( I got my two cards confused, my GF3 is 240/530. I gotta get my GF2 upgraded to an 8500 soon so I quit confusing them. )

Default Post I'm holding off..

...to see what the newer offerings are. My GF3 has plenty of legs left in it, I've got no complaint about how it games. I'm seriously thinking about getting that new Gigabyte 8500XT, that thing looks SWEET! (It's the first time I wrote to a hardware manufacturer begging for a review model since my fiasco with ATI so long ago.)

If not, I saw another 8500 (275/275) for $106us shipped!

I don't think I'll be going the nVidia upgrade path on Blue, she likes ATI better.

Default Post YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

All video cards should have fans on them. Makes them run cooler and last longer. Especially in ATX cases the GPU is upside down, so the heat stays on the chip and the card. A fan and an exhaust slot fan is the best solution.

So how DO you fit one?

What glue transfers the heat, and how do you avoid buying a tube of it that'll be solid next time you ever need it?

I made a bad choice....
The Creative GB MX DDR - yep, I KNOW the Geforce 2MX doesn't gain from DDR, as they restrict it to 64bit instead of 128, but I didn't know Creative went to Mr. cheap for 7ns memory, running at 143 MHz (DDR286) - still, at least I avoided the 64bit SDR MX200, and what I got was cheap (secondhand) and should work with my fussy motherboard (got caught out once already!)

NO heatsink at all - though one overclocking review reckoned they got 215 core/ DDR340 ram out of it despite that!

Though the face-down issue is worrying - and also aims a badly attached heatsink right at your next PCI card!!!!
