If you're looking to enable something that might give you an advantage over other players on any online games that use the steam VAC system (such as just about any counterstrike or halflife server out there) you will get banned. Not from here, but from the steam online system, you might know there is someone waiting around the corner for you the first time you go on to play, but there won't be a next time, ever, unless you buy the game again using a different username. Valve take a pretty dim view of cheating, and forcing shadows on when the server doesn't allow you to is cheating. I'm not sure about other online gaming systems, but I'd be surprised if they didn't have something similar in place.
