Trouble installing 7600GT

I just recently upgraded a lot of parts and one of them is a new graphics card, the 7600GT. I have run the install disc and for some reason cannot get the NVIDIA control panel to install correctly. It won't open. At the same time, games like R6 Vegas and STALKER are freezing my system, and it's my assumption the video card is to blame. I'm wondering since the control panel is not installed whether or not the drivers are installing correctly either. I've downloaded the lastest driver upgrades, I have uninstalled the drivers and used DriverCleaner, and reinstalled them, but I still have the same problem.

My basic system specs are AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2GB DDR2 800, 500W PSU, Geforce 7600GT.

Thanks for any help.

What are the rails on your PSU?
Also, have you tried removing all of your chipset and video drivers and then running DriverCleaner? Make sure you use the filters on DriverCleaner for your old video card and other components as well.

Max outputs are as follows:

+5v = 35A
+3.3v = 32A
+12v1 = 17A
+12v2 = 19A

The specs for the GPU say a min of 18A on the +12v, so do I fall into the min category? I'm not sure why I have two 12v.... ?

I've run DriverCleaner in Safe Mode to remove all trace of both the newly installed nVidia drivers, my chipset drivers, and my old ATI drivers (I had an x800XL before), but reinstalling from scratch has still done nothing. I've been using DriverCleaner 3, it has no filters. Maybe I should try and get Pro from somewhere?

System Specs

go to device manager, expand "display adapters", right click on the NVIDIA icon if one such icon is present, go to properties, click on the "driver" tab, and check what is listed under "driver version" that will tell you if the drivers are installed or not.

It says that version 6.14.10.9371 is installed, from October 2006.

I've noticed my Viewsonic monitor now says "analog" instead of "digital" when it turns on. When I had an ATI card it said digital. Does that mean anything?

I had only the 20-pin connector on my mobo, I added the other 4 pins but that didn't do anything...

Your Windows installation just might be borked. If you can, I'd do a reformat and reinstallation of Windows.
