8800 gts 640 drivers?

i havn't ever owned a nvidia card, but i just purchased one for my new build. im using NGO drivers right now for my old 9800xt and i know a lot of people used omegas for their atis because the ati drivers were never too good. is it the same way with nvidia? do people use 3rd party drivers because the nvidia ones arent good?

i guess the real question is just, what are the drivers people are having the most luck with for a 8800 gts.

(windows xp 32)

I would start with the latest available set on Nvidia's homepage and only if you encounter problems look for a 3rd party driver.

As of right now, 3rd party Nvidia drivers are not a good alternative this is because there's so many leaked and beta drivers flooding the internet no time is spent to bug test or optimize them.

The beta 160.02 are the only ones so far that allow Lost Planet to not freeze the system.
Go for the latest official ones unless you want to play Lost Planet, then you might have to upgrade to 160.02

Its the friggen "driver of the day" syndrome!I'm figureing it like this....right now nVidia has NO pressure to perform. At least in drivers anyways....There kicking ATI's ass right now{no harm to ATI fans ment.I have owned a fair ammount of ATI cards and they have all been super}nVIDIA just has no reason get there shit togther right now.

Nah man it's the total opposite. The pressure of delivering functional 8800 and Vista drivers has been more of a bane to Nvidia than the days of ATI vs Nvidia driver releases. It's apparent Nvidia has given up on quality and hopes to please customers with the sheer number of driver options with the hopes that one of them will work properly.

It's true that the performance crown now easily rests with Nvidia so they can relax their competitive pricing but that's another matter.
