43.40, 44.03, 44.65 Strange forum bug.

Hi all,

I'm currently running a FX 5600 and there is a strange bug happening when i visit some sites. It actually happens on DH so i'll use that as an example. Basically when i enter the forum and vew a post 85% of the time when i scroll (scrollbar or mousewheel) my monitor or the card locks up for a few seconds. After 5-10 seconds the monitor temporarily turns off and resets - as if its resetting the refresh rate. and then it comes back but until i minimise and maximise or open another window on top of IE the forum is unresponsive or strange things happen like the desktop icons show over IE

Has anyone any idea whats causing this???

I've tried brand new installs of XP as well as Sp1, dx9.0a etc...and 43.40, 44.03 and 44.65. I also have the most up to date monitor drivers installed.

Could you list all of your hardware, down to the PSU? I'll see what I can dig up on this.

System Specs

Can't say I've heard of this problem before, you mention specific driver sets, does it work fine with older ones ( if the card's supported) and have you tried Omega's set's?

have you tried using different browsers to browse this site? if it works then its not your card but IE
if i was in your situation i would only think of its a problem with IE (php compatibility) or your sound, may sound hard to believe but sometimes the causes of my IE problems are with my sound drivers, when i play a music and browse i cant scroll down without the music smearing, though it hasnt happened before, didnt want to update drivers cause im too lazy

so if i were in that situation it would be IE or Sound, Vid Card if situation repeats using a different browser, also try switching around with your refreshrate, updating monitor drivers only tell the comp your max resolution/refresh rate

good luck

That's strange. I never had any issues like that. I have the PNY 5800 FX with beta 44.65 drivers. Never seen that type of issue arise??

And, if your wondering where I got the 44.65, here is the link to them:

NVidia 44.65 BETA Drivers for 2000/XP ONLY!

HI all,

Ok i've tried a few things, heres what i've found.

It's not specific to IE - the same thing happens on Opera 7.11. However on Opera it automatically refreshes the screen, resets the monitor and comes back. I dont need to take any action.

It doesnt happen if i put an ATI card in the same system.

If i choose another refresh rate (i usually use 1024*768 at 85hz so i tried it at 75hz) the problem still occurs.

Have you tried to locked the refresh rate in the Driver control panel?? I remember I did have that problem on an older monitor. I just went into the refresh tab and chose to override settings. Making sure that all the refresh rates matched. I even checked under the monitor and adapter tab to verify. Once they were all set, it never happened again because the refresh never changed. Hope that helps!!
